I grunt in response. My muscles ache as I peel my own uniform off my body.

Grayson walks in, still in his full gear. He was on the phone with the sheriff’s department when we pulled back into the station.

He and I are the same age, so some might think I’m envious of his leadership position over me. It’s quite the opposite, though. Leading has never been my chosen path.

I chose to be a firefighter because I love doing physical work that exhausts me to the point of falling into bed at the end of a long day. Add in being able to help people while doing that, and I was sold.

“That call sucked,” he says, hanging up his helmet.

Tucker and I both nod in agreement. Glancing around the equipment room, I realize we’re the only three left in here.

We all go about righting all our gear to ensure it’s ready for the next call.

“I’m in,” Grayson says, still facing his cubby.

Tucker and I give each other a confused glance. “In what?” Tucker asks him.

Grayson turns around to face us. He looks kind of nervous, which isn’t something we ever see with our fearless leader.

“I’m in with the whole plan you came up with,” he says, waving his hand in Tucker’s direction.

My eyes widen. Out of all of us, I thought he would be the least likely to want to be involved in something like that.

“Once wasn’t enough for you?” Tucker jokes.

Grayson growls, “I swear to fuck.” He swings his heavy jacket toward Tucker, who jumps to the side to avoid getting hit.

“I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Damn.”

Grayson looks like he’s far from appreciating the joke.

Tucker stands up straighter, a seriousness falling over him. “You’re in, though?”

Grayson takes a deep breath but nods.

They both turn to look at me.Well, fuck…

“Only if this is really what she wants,” I find myself saying. Apparently, I decided before I was even fully aware.

Tucker’s gaze snaps back and forth between me and Grayson. “Hell yeah. I can’t believe you guys both agreed. You both seem like monogamy is more your thing.”

Grayson and I both shrug because that is where we both would have sided. If Grayson is anything like me, Sienna seems to be changing the game, though.

“This is going to be fun,” Tucker adds. “But yes, only if she wants to do this.”

“We need to talk to her,” I say.

“I think she’s going to the softball game at the end of the week with Hadley,” Grayson says.

The three of us are on a recreational softball team with some other guys from around town.

“Well, I guess we’ll talk to her then,” Tucker says with a huge smile plastered across his face.

I still don’t understand how I managed to find myself in this situation, but I don’t regret it. My life is centered around being a dad, and for once, I want to do something for me.

I want to have some fun. Hopefully, I can help Sienna find her joy along the way, too.

Only if she agrees,I remind myself.
