She nodded, her eyes dropping to the floor as she fought her tears. Her lip wobbled, and I panicked. I didn’t want to have to console a scorned woman at the best of times, let alone when I had drunk half of Tennessee.

“Jade, I’m shit at this,” I rubbed my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose. “I’m not a cheater, so I haven’t got a clue why people do shit like that. Just stay single, then you can fuck who you want. That’s what I think, anyway.”

“He fucked his roommate’s sister,” she whispered as a single tear slid down her cheek.

“Was she hot?” I asked, genuinely curious.

“Are you being fuckingseriousright now?” she yelled, her brown eyes flashing.

Dick move, Fallon.

“Sorry. Genuine question. Erm, are you okay?”

This is fucking awkward. Where is Summer?

“No. Of course not. I’m not good enough for Bryan. She’s in her last year of studying law. California blonde. Plain Asian girl in her last year of high school. Go figure,” she said bitterly. I frowned at her.

Is that really how she saw herself?

I wanted to tell her how beautiful she was, inside and out, how she was the hottest girl I’d ever laid eyes on. I ached to tell her that one day, someone would be worthy of her. Instead, I said, “You’re fucking perfect.”

She rolled her eyes. “Not tohim.”

“Fuck him,” I said as our eyes met. “I think you are.”

“If only you weren’t such a fuckboy.”

Wow. What?

“Maybe I wouldn’t be, for the right girl,” I smirked as she bit her lip.

“You’ll always be the way you are, Caleb. You couldn’t commit to a relationship if I paid you.” She shrugged as I felt indignation slice through me.

How dare she judge me like that?

“Don’t tar me with the same brush as your dickhead boyfriend. If you weremygirl, I’d spend every moment telling you how fucking perfect you are. I’d never look at anyone else. So it shows how muchyouknow.” I turned and walked up the stairs, wanting to climb into my bed and sleep for an eternity.

Why was she such a bitch? That was unnecessary. I walked into my room and drew the curtains, grateful for the darkness. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw Jade in the doorway, like a fucking apparition.

“Jesus fuckingChrist, are you trying to give me a heart attack?” I demanded as she closed the door behind her, leaning against it.

What the fuck?

I narrowed my eyes at her sitting down on my bed, sighing as I waited for her to continue her attack.

Maybe I’d just nod off, and she wouldn’t notice.

“I need to take my mind off him,” Jade intoned, her eyes drinking me in as she bit her lip nervously.

I blinked, wondering if I was hallucinating. I did a fuck load of shots last night if my memory served me correctly.

“Standing in my room saying that, looking at me the way you are, I would hazard a guess you’re trying to seduce me, Jade.”

Her gaze locked on mine as she strolled over to me, standing in front of me as I looked up at her. Suddenly my heart was beating faster than it was five minutes ago. Her fingers touched my shoulders lightly.

“Canyoudistract me,Caleb?”

She looked at me from under her lashes as she unbuttoned her jeans.
