“No. I can’t.” My voice was hoarse, and she flinched as though I’d slapped her. Her hands dropped to her sides as her cheeks burned with humiliation.
“Don’t tell Summer, please,” Jade whispered, turning to walk towards the door as I slammed my hand against it, preventing her from leaving. She looked confused, tears spilling down her cheeks as she demanded I let her go. I put my hands on her face as she tried to move away.
“No, because you are better than that,” I said. Jade frowned, shaking her head as she held onto my hands with hers. “I can’t be a fuckingdistractionforyou, Jade. I respect you far too much to be a rebound fuck. Try to understand where I’m coming from.”
She nodded, her eyes cold. “Fine. Thanks for therespect.Can youmove?”
Her voice dripped in sarcasm as I moved away, her hair brushing against my chest as she left. I groaned, leaning against the door, her sweet perfume lingering in my room. I wanted to fuck her so badly. But I didn’t want to fall for her unless I knew she was into me. Like I was into her.

I’m a fucking idiot.
I had Jade in my room, begging me to fuck her, and I said no. I had about a million fantasies in the Jade locker, all of them involving fucking her,hard. Yet when offered the opportunity, I say no.
“Fallon. Wait up.” I hear Gabe say, falling into step beside me. “So, the girls are hitting up a party this weekend.Collegeparty, of all things. You down?”

AKA Summer and Jade.
I glanced at him and shrugged, trying to appear disinterested.
“Jade said her ex will be there, or some shit. You know what girls are like, bro. She wants to make him jealous. Summer’s worried, though. She thinks Jade’s not thinking straight.” I blew out an exasperated breath as I slammed my locker shut. “Why are you tellingmethis?”
Gabe shrugged, glancing around us. “I dunno, just thought we should be there, you know? I’m going, obviously,” he scoffed as though the thought of him and Summer being apart was hilarious. “Maybe you could keep an eye on Jade?” he smirked, and I averted my eyes.
“She’s hurting. I’m not taking advantage of her,” I stated as we shuffled towards the exit.
“Yeah, but ifyoudon’t,someonewill. Especially if Jade’s flaunting it to fuckery. She’sstupidlyhot.”
I felt a twinge of annoyance as I realized he was right. Shewouldneed someone to look out for her, and why not be me?
I fucking love parties.
“Alright.”
He clapped my back and grinned at me.
“Yesssss. I’ll tell Summer.”
He headed off, his duffel bag banging on his back as he jogged out the door, towards Summer, who was waiting for him by the fountain outside of school. My gaze fell to the slender figure beside her, the dark hair shining in the sun as she shielded her eyes to look up to someone.
Jade.
Who is she talking to? JT? You must be shitting me.
He was trying to make her laugh, flirting and fooling around as she stared at him with a vacant look on her face. She forced a smile as he got his phone out, looking at her expectantly.

“Fuck off,” I told him as I strode up, giving him a dismissive stare.
