Finally, she wiggled away and sat up. “Jake, my family will be getting together at my parents’ house at five. I need to be there. I don’t want them asking questions about where I’ve been because I’m always truthful.”
“Just tell them you went home with me and the sex was so good, that we lost track of time. Stick to the truth.”
“I’m not telling them I went home with you.”
“I don’t mind.”
“I’ll bet you don’t.”
He laughed and pulled her into his arms. “We’ll get dressed. I’ll get my pilot to have the plane ready. We’ll fly back to the ranch and before we leave Dallas, you call and tell your mom that you won’t be home for dinner tonight because we needed to get back to the ranch.”
“I suppose that’s as good as I can do. Very well. I’ll get ready to go.”
“I’ll take you home so you can get your things,” he said and got up. When she stepped out of bed, he picked her up.
“We do have time for one more shower.”
“Oh, Jake.” He kissed her then, continuing until he stepped into his shower, stood her on her feet and turned on sprays of warm water again.
“I hope you had more fun being here with me than you would have had with your brothers if you had gone home.”
“You know I have, but I’ll get all sorts of arguments from my brothers and dire warnings about spending time with you.”
“And do you have regrets?” Jake asked, tilting her chin up to look into her eyes. “Do you?”
Nine
She looked into his dark brown eyes and shook her head. “I should have,” she whispered.
But she didn’t.
By the time they finished showering, Jake carried her back to bed to kiss her from head to toe.
Later, she snuggled against him. “I need to go home, get my things and we’ll fly back to the ranch as I told my family. I’m not staying here in your condo tonight.”
“I know we’re not. We’ll go now and get your things and leave for the ranch. You’ll be there before seven o’clock. Come on. You take this bathroom and shower, and I’ll take one of the others,” he said, getting out of bed and moving around.
She watched him, her gaze drifting down over him, and desire ignited within her. His body was enticing, muscled, fit and strong. He looked marvelous and she wanted to walk back into his arms and make love again and again through the night.
He turned and saw her staring at him. His chest expanded as he inhaled deeply. “Emily—”
“Go on, Jake. We have to go,” she said quickly, blushing as she turned and grabbed up clothes, hurrying to his bathroom without looking back.

Jake’s pulse raced as he headed to another shower. A cold shower this time. He’d noticed how she studied him. One look at her eyes and it was obvious she was ready to make love again. And, therefore, now he was. Emily was as insatiable as he was. His heart pounded and he wanted to turn around and hurry back to join her in the shower. How he would have liked to stay here tonight and keep making love. They could do the same at the ranch, but she might change her mind by then. Reason and work might interfere and she would refuse.
Instead of getting enough of making love with her, he wanted more. The more they had sex, the more he wanted to have sex with her.
His thoughts weren’t helping. He needed to think about something besides Emily’s naked body in his bed.
“Oh, damn,” he said softly. How could she tie him up in knots like this after they had made love all weekend? No woman had ever done that, especially one that waxed on about commitment and family, one that wanted marriage and love.
He was not in love. And he never would be. That was just impossible.

An hour later they were airborne, leaving Dallas, and she wondered whether she had had the most wonderful weekend of her life or something she would forever look back on and wish she had done differently.
