Greta really needed to learn how to give me more notice when she wanted to hangout. Do you know what time it is?

I shook my head and sighed. “Crazy woman,” I muttered.

No will not be accepted.

I’m tired. I will come next time. I was on day four of a six-day stretch, and all I wanted to do was go home and not move.

I know where you live. If you’re not here by 8, I’m coming to get you.

My phone rang, and Layla’s name appeared. “Did you get the text about girl’s night?” she asked.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. “Yes, and I assume you did, too, unless you just became psychic.”

“Are you going?”

“I really don’t feel like it.”

“We’re the new ol’ ladies, Birdie. I don’t think we should say no to girl’s night.”

“Who has girl’s night on a Wednesday night, Layla?”

“Ol’ ladies,” she chuckled. “I think we should go. We can hang out for a couple of hours and then head home. I’m pretty tired, too, but I do want to see what a girl’s night is like.”

“I guess I’m curious, too.” I pursed my lips and sighed. “Easy dropped me off at work today so you’re going to have to give me a ride. And,” I drawled, “when I say I want to go home, you have to promise we leave.”

“Scout’s honor,” Layla promised. “But I’m sure the guys won’t be too far away unless they’re doing some kind of boy’s night out.”

“I feel like that is all the time for them,” I muttered.

“You’re right. They do seem to be having a good time always.” Layla sighed heavily. “I need to put in an IV, admit two patients from the ER, and also find time to pee. I’ll try to get to the car by seven, but God knows. I’m parked in the garage on the second level.”

“Maybe you’ll work a miracle and get all of that done early,” I laughed. “And you don’t like the ER, Layla. Med/Surg gets just as crazy.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Layla muttered. “I’ll meet you at my car when I’m done.”

She ended the call, and I typed out a quick message to Greta. Layla and I will be there after work.

Aces. See you later, doc.

I dropped my phone on the desk and scrubbed my hands down my face.

“You look tired.”

I jumped up and clutched my hand to my chest. “Easy,” I cried. “What in the heck are you doing here?”

He chuckled and leaned against the nurse’s station. “I was in the area with Snapper, and we thought we would stop by.”

“You were actually going to be my next call. Greta talked Layla and me into a girl’s night, so I’m going to catch a ride with Layla after work.”

Easy nodded. “I’ll pick you up when it’s over.”

“You’re not going to be there?”

Easy shook his head and laughed. “I’ve seen girl’s night before, Doc. That is not something I willingly attend. I’ll be there at ten to take you home. Don’t get too drunk because we’ll be on my bike.”

“I have to work tomorrow, Easy. All I am going to drink is water.”
