“And then he told me I couldn’t report what happened because the statute of limitations was up, and that he didn’t push me down the stairs. He would say that I fell on my own.”

Easy laid his hands on the table. “And this is why you should have just let me handle this asshole, Birdie.”

“I just want him to leave, Easy. He just needs to leave,” I whispered.

“I’m handling this from now on.”

I grabbed his hand and twined my fingers with his. “I don’t want you or the club to get in trouble because of me. I’m going to go to the board and tell them what is going on. I know it is going to be his word against mine, but they have to listen to me.” There wasn’t any reason why they would believe Aaron over me. He was a new doctor at the hospital, and I had been there with years with no bad marks on my record.

“And what happens when he gets pissed off that you got him fired, and he comes after you?” Easy shook his head. “Do not say anything to the board and let me handle this.”

I sighed and sat back. “I’m not going to be able to talk you out of this, am I?”

Easy grabbed my hand and pressed a kiss to the back of it. “I will always protect you, Birdie. No matter what it takes.”

I knew that, and I loved it, but I didn’t want him getting in trouble to protect me. “I can get another job at a different hospital, Easy. I do that, and I don’t have to worry about Aaron,” I reasoned.

“You’re not running from this asshole ever again, Birdie. He scared you ten years ago, and he tried to scare you in the locker area yesterday. That was his biggest mistake.”

There wasn’t anything I could say that would make Easy change his mind. “Just promise you won’t get into trouble. Hurting Aaron isn’t worth you going to jail or worse.”

“Nothing is going to happen me.”

“Or the club. The girls would kill me if one of the guys winds up hurt because of me.” I leaned forward and held out my pinky to Easy. “Pinky promise that no one gets hurt.”

He looked at my pinky, then up at me. “Aaron is going to get hurt, Doc.”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine, pinky promise everyone but Aaron does not get hurt.”

He quirked his eyebrow and shrugged. “I can make that promise.” He hooked his pinky with mine and tweaked it. “Deal, Doc.”

“Thank you,” I sighed. I was still worried, but I think Easy understood that I did not want anything bad to happen to him or the club.

“Now finish your dishwater,” he chuckled.

I wrinkled my nose and shook my head. “Uh, no. I’ll just grab a granola bar from the vending machine.”

“Probably safer.” He picked up the spoon and sniffed the gray soup. “How did you even try that?”

I giggled and grabbed the spoon from him. “I was hungry and you easily distract me.”

“Right,” he drawled.

“You’ll pick me when my shift is over?” I asked.

He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to my lips. “Always.”

Easy

Aaron Gibbs was going to have a sudden change of heart about working at Rockton General and run back to whatever hole he crawled out of.

I was going to make sure of it.
