Instead, he turned, placing his back against the man, shielding his little bird. He knew it was the right move, when she instantly relaxed and leaned further back into him again.

“We will take our ice cream to the car.” He murmured in her ear, his nose pressed into her hair, and she nodded. Before she could say anything though, a man filled the space in front of them.

He looked up to see the stupid fucker from before, a swarmy smile on his face, his gaze pinned on her.

His little bird!

The stupid fucker was seriously asking for trouble.

“Hey there babe. Thought I would bring this over for ya,” the fucker drawled, holding out Winters’s ice cream.

At the man’s words her body went solid, and his arms flexed, before he took a step back and pulled her with him.

There was no way that she was going to eat something that the fucker may have messed with.

“No thanks,” he called, but the man didn’t even look to him, like he wasn’t even there.

Like she wasn’t currently trying to crawl her way inside of him and away from the fucker.

“Hey don’t be like that babe. I promise you after you eat this, I can show you a real good time.”

Her little moan of distress, along with the waves of fear sliding off her, slithered over his skin, the green filling him twisting with it.

Keep it together.

He barely held himself back, as an anger like he had never known hit him like a train.

But then the fucker looked up to him and winked.

Fucking winked.

“Dude, you need to step the fuck back!” He growled, eyes narrowed on the fucker as he twisted pulling Winter with him, intent on getting them the fuck out of there before he did something.

“Hey now babe, don’t be like that. I promise I’ll show you a good time,” the fuck said again, twisting to step in front of them.

The man wasn’t a big guy, but he was persistent.

He felt her hands loop through and twist on his belt, and he eyed the crowd around them.

There were too many people around for him to lay the fucker out.

Too many witnesses.

The last thing either of them needed was to end up in the slammer.

Winter didn’t need that.

Besides, she had seen too much violence in her short life. He wasn’t about to add to it.

But even he had a limit.

And the guy clearly didn’t see the danger in front of him when he reached out with a lone finger.

As if he was going to touch her.

Winter.

His little bird.
