He would give anything for her to have a different past, a different story. But right then, he had to admit that he was thankful that he wasn’t having to meet her parents.
She walked out of the bathroom, and he couldn’t help the feelings that went through him when she saw him and smiled, coming right for him.
It was in his chest.
Like he couldn’t breathe, but in a good way.
It was also in his dick. But he was trying not to focus on that.
“You look a little better? Keep your lunch down?” He chuckled at the scowl that she sent him.
“We are driving back. No more flying.” She managed to say in a tone that had him outright laughing.
“Mark?” The words had him pausing, turning to a group of people that he hadn’t seen a moment ago.
One that he hadn’t seen for over a year.
“Hey man you made it!” Danny shouted, walking up and giving him a one-armed hug while slapping his back.
“This must be the lovely Winter!” Danny held out his hand and she hesitated, looking worriedly at him.
He scowled at Danny but nodded to her. His gut clenched, twisting with something ugly. Boiling energy filled him with a slick green haze as Danny dramatically bent over her hand and kissed it. Giving her a wink as he stood back up.
“It isverynice to meet you, sweetheart,” Danny drawled out as Winter nodded, looking like she wanted nothing more than to run away.
It was the only thing saving the fucker.
He stepped up behind her and wrapped his arm around her, trying not to reach out and grasp her hand from Danny. Glaring daggers at Danny, biting his tongue to keep his mouth shut, till Rick stepped up to his side.
“Now you know how I felt. The fucker just can’t help but flirt.” Rick said, as he slapped him on the back.
“I don’t flirt,” Danny said haughtily and Winter giggled softly, leaning back into him.
It helped to ease a little of the green that was swarming his vision.
“Hi, I’m Christine. It’s really nice to finally meet you! I’ve heard so much about you,” Christine said, stepping up and holding her hand out. She gave him a small smile and then turned back to Winter.
“You too. Thank you,” Winter said, taking Christine’s hand. Her shoulders dropped slightly at the friendly greeting they were getting and he knew that she was finally relaxing.
But looking over Danny and Rick’s shoulders he saw Dominic standing with Alice back away from the group, and his smile dropped.
Dominic’s body was ridged, placed slightly in front of Alice, as if protecting her, and he felt his hackles rise again.
“Sir,” Mark said.
“Mark.” Dominic looked to Winter, before turning back to him and masking the disdain on his face.
What the fuck!
Dominic couldn’t have been plainer about his feelings right then. His dismissal of Winter. He felt the mood around them start to shift, the others in their group cluing into the mood snaping between them.
What was his problem?
“We need to talk,” Dominic said, casting a glance again toward Winter.
Dominic’s lips quirked, a small sneer forming, before he quickly wiped it away.
But Mark saw it.
