“Winter.”
“Winter.” The whispered words slowly penetrated the sleepy haze that was surrounding her.
“Winter.”
“Hmmm.”
“We found him.”
She came instantly awake, sitting up straight in bed almost hitting Ben in the head as he jerked back. His hands went to her shoulders to steady her.
“What?” she said.
“Shhh. Tory doesn’t know I’m up here!” He shushed her then looked over his shoulder at the door.
“We found him. We found Mark. The guys are heading out now. If you want in on this, we need to go now.”
“Yes!” She gasped, frantically clawing herself out of the blankets and running for the bathroom. “Don’t leave without me.”
Throwing her hair up in a ponytail she grabbed a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She didn’t care how they looked, just that they covered her.
I’m coming Mark.
She quickly followed Ben down the stairs where over fifty men were dressed to the hills in black. Gone were the jeans and t-shirts. Even the vests with the patches were gone. Replaced with all black ones.
There were guns and knives strapped to every man, and each man had a black bandana wrapped around their necks.
Way more men than before.
She paused as every eye flew to her, her stomach dropping out from under her, and her old fears tried to resurface.
“Fuck! Ben I thought we were going to leave her here.” Tory scowled at her, and it was enough to snap her out of her head.
“That’s my man that you’re going to get. You don’t get to tell me what to do. So either get me a gun or shut up and get out of my way.”
Tory continued to glare at her, but she heard Ben chuckle.
“Get this woman a vest,” Tory called out and a man came up beside them.
“Miss.” She turned, grabbing the vest from him.
“Thank you.”
“Get her a face mask,” Tory barked.
“A mask, Pres?” the man questioned, but Tory continued to stare at her.
She met his stare even as his words scared her.
What was the mask for?
“Yes. If she’s going in with us, then I want her dressed for it,” Tory said and she got the impression that he thought she would back down.
She had news for him though, if she could face down Dominic with a gun, then facing Tory was a walk in the park.
