King looked over at Avery and asked, “Do you think Sarah meant what she said when she told you she was going to burn us out?”
Avery nodded without hesitation.“Yeah, I do.Sarah never says anything she doesn’t mean. She thinks all her relatives have turned on her and now she doesn’t care what happens to them, any of them.”
“Including her own daughter.”King snarled.
Avery looked at Andy and said, “Especially her own daughter, she thinks Andy betrayed her in the worst possible way she could imagine.By turning her back on her own mother, she feels Andy deserves to die like the traitor she is.”Shaking her head she admitted, “Of course Andy didn’t betray her but Sarah’s mind isn’t rational. She’s like a horse with blinders on, she can only see straight ahead and her mind isn’t like everyone else’s, the whole world only revolves around what she wants. Her dad is the same way. They don’t really get along that well.I’ve heard them fight a lot when they think no one else can hear them.”
Andy nodded.“They fight on a daily basis and believe me when I say their fights usually end up with punches thrown by one or both of them.Although they never really hit each other, they used to hit me.”She shivered.“You have no idea how happy I was to leave that house. To be away from her. Then you guys gave me a chance and I took it.”
They all were quiet for a moment.
“Well, the first round of agents should be checking in soon,” Grizzly told them.“They left last night to keep an eye on things down there before we could get the warrants signed. They were supposed to keep tabs on Sarah and Lester and tell us where they were so we could issue the warrants when we got there.”He looked down at his watch and said, “In fact, they should have called us an hour ago.”
Just then, Grizzly got a ding on his phone and when he read the message there, he looked over at King.“That was the first team. They got there last night but couldn’t find Sarah or Lester. They checked again this morning and there’s still no sign of either of them. They began pulling their friends in and they confirmed that both of them left Houston and they are on their way here.Lester said something about if you want the job done, you have to do it yourself.”
Andy gasped and stood from her chair.“Mom’s coming here to burn this place to the ground!”
Chapter Nine
King and Bullet bothstood up too.
“We aren’t going to let that happen.”King growled.
Bullet wrapped his arm around her shoulder and told her, “Damn right, we’re not. We’ll find them and stop them before they can even light a fucking match. We aren’t going to let her do diddy-fucking-squat.We will stop them, Andy. But you have to trust us to have your back.”
Andy leaned against Bullet and nodded.Tears made her shiver.“I know I just panicked for a moment.Fear like I’ve been living with doesn’t disappear overnight.I’m sorry.”
Bullet brushed a wisp of her hair out of her face and smiled.“I know sweetness but you have to trust us.”
Andy nodded at him.“I do trust you.You and these men have given me nothing but hope that I can finally be free of that bitch.I have to stay strong.I just need a little hug to get me through this.”
Bullet tightened his arms around her and hugged her close.“We got your back sweet Andy and don’t you forget that.”
King looked around.“Grab your weapons Fury and text Rocket on your phones if you see anything.Take your positions.Watch the fence lines and the woods.”
Several men grabbed their guns and headed for the roof.Grizzly went up with them, a rifle in his hand. Some moved out through the front and back doors.
