Chapter Eight
By early morning, reportsbegan coming back in from the verifications.The main Houston Marshal’s office had been busy with all that was needed to get verified warrants started.They were now getting the paperwork aligned for a judge to sign.Many of them were excited to finally bust the brother and sister of malice and mayhem.
By mid morning, they were all seated at the table putting the whole package together.They all had gotten like six hours of sleep then coffee and breakfast.If it all went well, they would bag two notorious criminals and be home for dinner.
Grizzly looked over at Avery and shook his head.“How did you know to make these files so complete?Everything in them checks out and the Marshals are gathering their ranks to travel down there and capture the two of them.”
Avery smiled at him.”I did have skills as a bookkeeper but my memory is what made those files so damning to her and Lester.I remembered every name, even how they were spelled and what rank they held.Or what amount they took as a bribe and even for what reason.Just by listening to Sarah then seeing her books.”
He shook his head as he grinned.“You need to be in the Marshalls or even the FBI.”He laughed.“But just so you can be reassured, the locals won’t be able to interfere with our Marshals either.Right now, all they are waiting on is the judge to sign the warrants.They will stop here to take us with them.”He looked over at King, “I hope you don’t mind not being there for the final show.”
King grunted.“Well, I do and I don’t.I wanted to lead the pack and go after them myself for everything they did to my family but I got a feeling we should stay here.”
Grizzly nodded.“I hear you, brother.I got that same feeling.But I also need to be there when they take those two into custody.You did call for my help.”
Gunner looked over at King.“He has the badge so he has to go but if you want the rest of us to stay, all you have to do is let us know.”
King nodded.“Would appreciate it if you did.Numbers never hurt.”
Gunner nodded.“You got it, brother.Even now I’m sure Sarah and Lester have figured things out.They must know that Avery isn’t there anymore and they might figure out that she’s here.”
Avery had been standing there listening.“I will never go back there.I won’t.I’ve managed to get away from that gang twice now and I won’t go back there only to get shot by Sarah or Lester.”
Gunner shook his head.“You’re under the Fury’s protection and no one would ever make you return there.”
“We got your back too.”Boone growled.“That’s why we’re here.When you called Grizzly in, you called all of us in.Everybody here stands with you.”
Avery looked around the room and just shook her head.
King chuckled.“Not all MC’s are bad, girl.Some of us care about people and we think you’ve been hurt enough.We don’t tolerate hurting women and children, we never have.Some of us have morals and some of us are bad news.”
“Have you guys ever heard of the Soul Stealers?”Avery whispered.“They’re from the Tyler area.”
“Is that who gunned Trever down?”Ryker asked.
Avery shook her head.“They work with the Morales gang that shot Trever.I didn’t know about them the night Trever died.I wasn’t close enough to see who they were, but I saw them when they came to our house.I remember the man in charge, he had a long scar down his face.He was there the night they broke into our place in Mount Pleasant too.He shot my parents while the rest of them shot up my bedroom.”
“Did the cops ever find them?”Gunner wanted to know.
She shook her head.“I don’t think so, but I don’t know for sure.After they left, I ran.I went to Longview then Sarah found me and she dragged me to Houston.I was able to hide from them but she wouldn’t let me go.When I got that message from Andy, I was almost at my wit’s end.I knew Sarah didn’t trust me anymore and I was on the verge of running again.”She looked over at Ryker and smiled.“I’m so glad I took that chance.”
Ryker smiled back.“So am I, so am I.”
“Like my dad told you, and the girls all confirmed this.Lester has already sent a lot of his family up against us,” Commando assured them.“And Gabby has gone head to head with both of them over the money.So if they figure out we’re coming after them, they will both dig in deeper and call in their army to protect them.”
Grizzly nodded.“And that is something we don’t want them to do.We’re hoping to catch them unaware.But we’ll protect ourselves all the same.The Marshals don’t fuck around when it comes to taking people down.”
“But if they’ve already slipped out of Houston,” Commando spoke up again.“And are on their way here, we need to watch for anything that might be a distraction or a head on assault.”
