“I’ve always wanted to ride in this car with you,” I said, still blown away thatthiswas what he’d decided to pick me up in tonight. I hadn’t seen much of him over the last few years, but he’d been driving a black, two-door Bronco that he’d bought in college when I’d hung out with him and Adam last. I guess I figured that he’d sold this.
“What do you mean? I’ve driven you around in it before.”
I scoffed. “Yeah, around the block maybe. A total pity ride.” I shook my head, lightly giggling. “I remember you used to take girls out on dates in this thing, and I was always so jealous.”
Logan gave me a side-eye. “You were like, thirteen, Mills.”
“Yeah, but that was around the time you and Adam became too cool to hang out with me and I was definitely a sore loser about it.”
Logan as he steered the car out of the parking lot, and I spent the next ten minutes absorbed by his driving, completely mesmerized with how effortlessly he shifted the manual transmission. I don’t think I’d ever seen him look so comfortable doing something, and it was sexy as hell.
“You’re staring.”
I blushed. “Hard not to.” Logan smiled at this. “Where are you taking me, anyway?”
“A fancy shmancy seafood restaurant downtown.” His voice was low and matched the rumble of the car’s engine. “We’ll be there in about five minutes.”
I could feel my mouth water. I loved seafood, and I hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast. I watched Logan drive for a few more minutes and, sure enough, we soon pulled up to a cozy building with a dark green paneled exterior and an expansive patio. Tall heaters were mixed amongst the small tables, and edison lights hung beautifully from rafters above.
“Wait here,” Logan said before he got out of his side of the car. A moment later, he was opening my door and holding out his hand, just as he’d done at the grocery store in Breckenridge.
“I could get used to this,” I teased.
“Good.” He said it as if it were simply a matter of fact, and I felt that single word well up inside of my belly like an inflating balloon.
Logan kept a hold of my hand as we walked into the restaurant. He gave his name for our reservation at the host stand, and the beautiful hostess led us to a small table in the back corner of the main dining room.
The lights were dimly lit and there were candles on every table. The waitstaff wore black ties, and maroon wallpaper with gold-foiled accents covered the main wall behind the bar, which looked to be made of white marble. Fancy shmancy was right.
Logan pulled my chair out for me to sit down before he took his seat across from me. He was a vision in this low lighting. “How did you find this amazing place?”
His eyes literally glittered. “I helped the owner of the restaurant restore a classic car, one of many in his collection.”
“Wow, cars can really yield some great connections, huh?”
Logan laughed softly before nodding toward the menu. “Order whatever you want. I’m thinking oysters for an appetizer?”
“That sounds amazing.”
We spent a few minutes looking over our menus before our waiter came to get our orders. We both ordered a drink, and I chose the shrimp scampi risotto while Logan ordered a ribeye steak and lobster tail. My mouth was still watering at the selection, and even more so as I watched the man sitting across the table ordering his food.
Once we were alone again, Logan’s attention focused back on me. “Mills?”
“Yes?”
“Do you realize that you and I are on adateright now?”
This got my heart going. Were we going to talk about this? Now? “I kind of can’t believe it . . .” I shook my head, grinning.
“Me either,” he said.
“The last few days have been rather surprising,” I continued.
Logan huffed. “You have no idea, Amelia.”
“Oh?” I said, hoping that he would elaborate.
His expression became a bit more serious. “I just never thought this would actually happen.”
