“Good, I was hoping not.” Adam put his plate and fork into the sink and rinsed them both off. “Alright, I’m going to go shower and get ready for work. Enjoy your show.”

I settled back into the couch and focused onThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hillsas he disappeared into his room.

An hour later, Adam walked out of the door to head to work and I threw myself into action. After turning off the TV, I practically ran into the en suite bathroom in my room and started the shower. As soon as the water was warm enough, I jumped in. I scrubbed my body with my favorite strawberry-scented soap and then shaved every inch of my legs. I washed my hair and let the conditioner stay in for a couple extra minutes to help give it some shine.

After my shower, I spent about thirty minutes blowing my hair out with a round brush, and when I was done I had to admit—it looked good.

I fished out a hydration mask from my toiletries tub and placed the slick sheet over my face. It smelled like jasmine and felt amazing on my skin. The instructions noted that it needed to stay on for about twelve minutes, so I used that time to put lotion on the rest of my body.

When I removed the mask, I let the remaining moisture on my face air dry while I got dressed. I’d chosen a casual-chic outfit that included a beige turtleneck crop top, a pair of comfortable black jeans, and cute black ankle boots. I had a black leather jacket to throw on before I left, so I went to hang it by the front door to grab when Logan got here.

Once I was dressed, I had about fifteen minutes left until six. I spent the remaining time I had putting on makeup, giving myself some extraumpharound the eyes with my black eyeliner and gold shimmer eye shadow. When I was done, I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled. I felt good. Confident. Ready for this.

Then came a firm knock at the door.

Excitement prickled under my skin as I raced to the entryway, almost slipping on the hardwood floor in my socks. When I reached the door, I unlocked the deadbolt and swung it open to find Logan standing on the other side, and he looked . . .

My god, he lookedamazing.

He was wearing a black crew neck sweater, nice jeans, and dark brown boots. His cropped hair was styled a bit to the side, and it hit me again how much of amanhe was—no longer the boy that I knew so long ago. It almost made my chest ache.

“Hi,” I said, realizing as the word left my mouth that just three days ago I was opening this very same door to find Logan on the other side of it. So much had changed in just seventy-two hours.

Logan gave me a lopsided grin that radiated within me. “Hey, Mills.” He leaned in for a quick kiss on the cheek as he walked into the apartment. “You ready?”

I nodded. “Yep, I just need to turn off the lights in my room real quick—one second!” I bounded back to my room to make sure everything was turned off, and then met Logan back at the doorway where I grabbed my leather jacket. “Let’s go,” I said, smiling up at him.

I wassoready for this.

Logan stood patiently next to me out in the hallway as I locked the door. As we walked toward the elevator, he reached down to grab my hand, lacing his fingers between mine. I looked up at him and smiled, feeling the heavy pitter-patter of my heart as it raged inside of my chest. When we reached the end of the hall, he pressed the button for the elevator.

A moment later, the elevator chimed before the doors opened and revealed a woman inside. It was the same woman who had sneered at me earlier this week when I’d first shown up to Adam’s apartment. Her eyes found Logan first, and she grinned at him appreciatively, giving him a quick once-over with flirtatious eyes. When those eyes settled on me, her face visibly fell in confusion.

I smiled brightly at her, giving her my best impression of Julia Roberts on Rodeo Drive with dozens of luxury bags in my hands. Except we were in a beautiful high rise in Denver, and I had an incredibly sexy man on my arm.

The woman cleared her throat before looking down and swiftly moving out of the elevator. Logan and I stepped in, and as we turned around to face the closing doors, I caught the woman looking back at us. In the last moment before the door shut, I shot her a victorious wink.

“What was that all about?” Logan asked, grinning out of the side of his mouth.

“Oh, nothing.” I shrugged. “Some women never leave their ‘mean girl’ era. And retribution can be sweet.” I glanced up at him.

He shook his head. “Remind me to never piss you off.”

“I’m sure you will. And I’m sure I’ll piss you off too. But that’s what make-up sex is for.” I winked.

I watched as his pupils dilated, eyes darkening as the elevators opened to the building’s beautiful lobby. I noticed Charlie at the door, making small talk with an elderly couple.Shit.I didn’t want him to see me with Logan and risk him saying something to Adam about it. Looking around, I spotted a side door with an illuminated exit sign and pulled Logan toward it.

“Good call,” Logan whispered down to me.

Outside, the air was cold. Thursday night’s storm had hit the city just as fiercely as it’d hit the mountains. There was still a lot of snow on the ground, and Logan was careful to lead me through it as we walked to find his car in the lot. The heels I was wearing were comfortable, but I didn’t trust myself on icy ground so I was thankful to have him to lean on.

I was so focused on the ground that I didn’t notice Logan’s car until he was opening the door for me. I looked up and saw his old, black Chevelle, still in gloriously mint condition. “You still have this?” I exclaimed, my voice suddenly a higher pitch in my excitement.

Logan chuckled softly. “Yes.”

I beamed up at him before I stepped in to sit down. He shut my door and walked around the front of the car while I looked around, soaking in the immaculate interior. The black leather seats were a bit worn but comfortable, the center console was so clean I could have eaten off of it, and the carpeted floor looked like it had very recently been vacuumed.

“Here, let me get the heat going for you,” he said as he hopped in and started the ignition.
