“Yet, it hugs you like a glove. Sexy, even.” She winked and flipper her long black hair off of her shoulders. “You might even get pregnant when the boys see you in that.”

“Why did I ever give you that MPreg book?” I shut the curtain.

“Once you start reading gay guys fucking – you can never go back. Can I choose a pair of jeans for you too?”

“Sure. I need a new pair.”

“Keep the shirt on. I want to see how they look together.” I heard the clip of her heels on the tile floor as I waited.

“What size do you think you are?”

“Thirty – thirty-two.” I blushed, having to yell it across the store.

Her heels clipped back towards me, and her hand came through the curtain with the jeans clutched loosely.

“I got you a twenty-eight. Just try them on, and no whining, bitch.”

I pulled my pants off and slid the new jeans on. They were tight, but they fastened easily.

“These are… these are too tight, Lisa.”

“Open that fucking curtain, and let me look at your ass.” She ordered, and of course, I did it. “Wow… Those fit you fabulously. Not so tight that anyone would know your religion, but your ass looks amazing. You are totally getting them.”

“They’re not too obscene? You promise?”

“They fit you the way pants should fit you. You keep trying to hide your assets, and trust me, that’s not working out well for you, is it?” She grinned and batted her eyelashes at me. “Now, let’s get you out of these clothes so we can go get momma a drink before I have to go back home and deal with my kid. Being a single parent is a bitch.”

“She’s three. How hard can it be?” I pulled the curtain closed and started to strip. I unbuttoned the shirt and hung it back up before I started trying to get the jeans off. They went on a lot easier than they were coming off. I reached up to grab the side of the wall as I tried to get them off from around my ankles.

The curtain flew open, and Lisa stood there smirking. “What is taking so damn long?”

“They’re stuck.” I laughed and glanced up.

I froze.

Jax stood in the store a few feet from me with a shirt in his hands. Our eyes locked, and the color drained from my face. I didn’t know what to do.

“You look like an idiot.” Lisa shook her head in judgment, and finally, I pulled my leg free.

“I guess they’re right about nothing changing in small towns.” Jax finally said.

Lisa’s eyes expanded so far, I thought they might pop out of her head. “Jax?” She asked as she slowly turned around.

I shut the curtain now that my hands were free and almost curled into a ball in the corner of the dressing room. Jax was already in town? Shit – Jax had just seen me practically naked in the Hardin Dress Barn. I would have to kill Lisa later. I could hear Jax and Lisa talking through the curtain as I quickly threw my old clothes back on. I kept the curtain closed as I sat down and slowly tied my shoes.

If there was a God – Jax would leave before I ever had to come out of this cubicle.

“That would be great. I haven’t talked to too many of our old friends in a while.” Jax sounded like he didn’t have a care in the world. I guess he didn’t any longer. He was rich and successful and a household name if you liked baseball. Every now and then, his face would appear in a commercial as he shaved. His tan body, thick with muscle, teased me from the screen as a reminder of what I did – what I could never have again.

“Will you hurry the fuck up, Kenny?” Lisa barked and then laughed loudly.

I slowly drew back the curtain and stood there sheepishly.

“Hi, Kenny.” Jax nodded.

“Hi, Jax. I… uh… I…”

“What our friend is trying to say is he’s glad to see you.” Lisa knew the situation better than most.
