“Where did he take them? Jesus, no we need the cops!” The very idea that her piece of shit husband had taken the kids dropped my stomach. “Where’s Uriah?”
“He’s with them, they took him too!”
My legs were about to buckle. Carly, Devon, and Uriah…
I pushed through the doors of the theater, and plunked us down on the benches there. I dropped my head in my hands. “Christ. We need help. What does he want?”
“Money. The kids’ trust funds. He said he’s either going to get the money or keep the kids…”
I grabbed my phone, and hit Angela’s number. A moment later her cheerful voice came through. “Hey, Austin! What shaking? The interview—”
“The kids were kidnapped,” I gasped, trying not to hyperventilate.
“What?”
Aubrey leaned into the phone. “Gerry has my kids. He took them and Uriah from the school.”
“Where are you?” she snapped.
“At the theater.”
“Get home, get back to your place. Go. We’ll meet you there.”
Aubrey and I managed to stagger out to the street and grab a taxi. I didn’t remember the ride, and I didn’t remember staggering in the front door.
But I saw the contingent of people now in my kitchen. I knew most of them, but there were a few I didn’t have a clue who they were.
Angela and another woman—who looked a lot like Marcus—hustled me and Aubrey to seats. Noah was sitting with his hands in his hair, staring at the table.
“Noah?” I asked.
“He’s okay,” Noah whispered. “He’s alive. He’s scared as hell though.”
The twins thing.
“Where do we stand?” Angela asked, putting a glass of amber liquid in front of me.
“Nelson let us borrow the plane,” Luis said.
“It’s being fueled right now,” Chase called.
“The cars all set up,” Marcus yelled from the other room.
“Where are we with the legal shit?” the other woman called.
“Vincent is drawing up all the custodial papers and he’ll have an order of restraint in front of a judge as soon as we’re ready,” Maddox said.
“He’s going to meet us at the plane?” Angela asked.
“He, and some muscle,” Maddox said.
“Mu—muscle?” Aubrey hiccoughed.
“Yup,” Luis said. “Apparently Vincent knows someone who knows someone who can help us.”
“How long until we can get to the airport?” Grant called.
“I have the limo coming,” Bryce said.
