I miss Star.

I miss Sawyer.

I miss my truck.

I miss the sun.

I miss the taste of glute-free beer on the back of your truck.

I miss your bed.

I miss how we dance together.

I miss the feel of your hands on my body.

I miss the way you kiss me.

I miss the way you say my name.

I miss how we slow dance, just to be close.

Most of all, I miss you. All of you.

There’s no reply as I pack my case, or when Ellie bounces into the room and hands me a tissue, or when I order a town car to drive us to the airport. I book a one-way ticket for two, destination Heartville. Ellie and I are going on an adventure, and I’ll tell Hayden Taylor exactly how I feel - right to his handsome face.

When the plane lands in Heartville, Ellie squeals with delight when she steps out into the airport to stand infront of the blazing hot sun shining through the floor to ceiling windows. That familiar heat soothes my anxious nail biting and jittery steps. It feels so good on my face, but nothing compares to the feeling of Hayden’s lips. As soon as I enter the terminal, I switch on my phone, and a message beeps.

Hayden:

Decide where your home is, and where your heart belongs.

I’m right here waiting, if you want me.

Then another message arrives only seconds later.

Hayden:

And… I miss how the sunlight catches in your hair.

I miss how your skin smells sweeter than anything I’ve ever known.

I miss the cool shade of blue that sparkles in your eyes when you smile.

I miss your voice.

I miss your accent.

I miss your laughter.

I miss how you shatter around me when I make love to you.

I'm a dick for letting you leave without saying goodbye.

I’m a complete dickhead for letting you leave.

Most of all…. I’m an asshole for not telling you how much I love you.

“Why are you crying?” Ellie hugs me as we wait for our luggage to travel along the conveyor belt.
