‘What about games, have you ever had a go at writing your own?’

‘I have, only a couple of basic ones though, unfortunately I’m not that hot at development. Why do you ask?’

‘Oh, I just wondered, those game developers must make a lot of money.’

‘Some of them do, it’s like everything else though, competitive. If you can come up with an interesting concept that the public will buy then yeah, I suppose you can practically print your own money.’

Ben interjected. ‘Does Heather work?’

Luke shook his head. ‘She used to, she doesn’t any more.’

‘What did she do?’

‘Worked in the butchers on the high street, but she got fed up with the stench of the meat in the summer and gave it up. She’s currently trying to write a novel, but I don’t know how she’s getting on with it. She doesn’t talk about it.’

‘That’s amazing, what genre? I love reading.’

‘I think it’s women’s fiction. Look I don’t mean to sound rude, but my meeting is going to start soon.’

Ben smiled but didn’t move. ‘Of course, sorry just a couple more, did you go to Sunday school?’

Luke began to laugh. ‘Sunday school, what has that got to do with anything? I maybe went a couple of times as a kid because I was in the Scouts and we had to go to church now and again. I can’t even remember to be honest it’s that long ago.’

‘Have you heard of a game calledIsaiah?’

Luke screwed up his eyes and shook his head at Ben.

‘I can’t say that I have, but then again it’s hard to keep up with all these online crazes these days.’

‘Thanks, Luke. One last question, were you having an affair with Sally Lawson?’ Ben was watching him closely.

Luke’s mouth dropped open, and he looked around as if checking that Heather hadn’t just walked through the front door.

‘What do you mean by that?’

Morgan smiled at him. ‘The pictures on your phone we seized, they were very telling. Does Heather know you had a thing for Sally?’

‘I most certainly wasn’t having an affair with Sally; I’d never cheat on my wife. How dare you come into my home and insinuate such nonsense. Do you know how much trouble you would cause if Heather had heard this? She is a very jealous woman and she’s not been well lately, she’s having trouble with her meds and trialling new ones that don’t seem to be working too good. You would cause such trouble talking like this.’

Morgan thought that maybe Heather was the one they should be talking to. Could she be their killer?

‘I want you to leave now and don’t come back talking such utter nonsense unless you have proof of anything more than a couple of photos.’

‘They were hardly a couple of photos. Why did you only upload the photos of Sally to your new phone, and then the ones of her dead family?’

Luke’s face had paled significantly since he’d let them into his home. He looked around flustered. Then lowered his voice. ‘I liked her, okay, there’s no crime in that.’

Ben looked him straight in the eyes. ‘You liked her, in what way? As a friend, a good neighbour, a lover?’

‘I can’t believe this, that you would come in here speaking about her like that.’

‘We’re not speaking out of turn, and I’m sure she would want us to do whatever we had to, to find the person who killed her and her family.’

Luke turned to Morgan. ‘This is your doing; you think you’re smart, don’t you, but you’re not and you know nothing about me or my life. Get out of my house and don’t bother to call again unless you have enough evidence against me to secure a warrant for my arrest.’

He marched to the front door and stood there holding it wide open.

They walked out but before he could close it Morgan turned back and stared at him.
