I playfully slapped his arm. “You don’t need me to help with that. I’m sure you got plenty more doing that for you.”
Jabari looked at me and shook his head. “Nah, but even then, it wouldn’t be as meaningful as yours.”
I tried my hardest not to show on my face how he had me feeling. I looked the other way and could hear him chuckle.
“Here. Open up and try this.”
I turned to him, and he already had a scoop of banana pudding on a spoon. Again, I slowly opened my mouth and as soon as I tasted the caramelized bananas, I almost melted in his arms.
“You’re spoiling me,” I purred with my mouth full.
“Good. A person like you deserves to be spoiled. With all that you do for others and your patients, I’m surprised you don’t have someone out there spoiling you now... or do you?”
I shook my head. “I don’t. To be honest, I don’t think I ever did. I’m the one who’s usually doing all the spoiling and loving.”
“I don’t like that for you. Shit, I don’t like that for any woman. A woman is supposed to be spoiled, especially if she mostly takes care of others. My mama has told me how hard them motherfuckers work you at that hospital. You should be coming home relaxing and getting spoiled instead of the opposite.”
If I were butter, I would’ve melted in that moment of how hot Jabari had me. He’d said all the right things, done all the right things, and looked good in all the right places.
“Can I ask you a question and you promise not to judge me?”
He shrugged. “It depends on the question.”
“What’s your zodiac sign? I know many people don’t believe in signs and stuff, but I do, so I’m curious to know.”
He laughed. “My sun is a Capricorn. My moon is a Pisces, and my rising is a Libra.”
My mouth dropped open. “You know all of that?”
“I dibble and dabble a bit in that stuff. I like to read up on it to see if my character traits match it.”
“You got the Capricorn down pack. You’re ambitious and a hard worker.”
“Yep, but I fall more so in my moon sign, depending on the person.”
Jabari looked at me. From what I’d read about Pisces, they could be romantic, gentle, and kindhearted, along with being creative and artistic. Jabari had shown me all of that tonight.
“What about you? What’s your sign?”
“Sun in Cancer, moon in Leo, and Rising in Libra.” I smiled proudly.
He nodded in agreement. “A true Cancer, I can tell.”
“And how is that?”
“Your aura screams all that... nurturing, caring, emotional, all the things associated with a Cancer.”
“Is that a bad thing?” I asked.
He smirked. “Nah. It’s beautiful, actually.”
I looked away from Jabari. The warmth in my face betrayed me. Jabari had a major effect on me. His presence was powerful, his word held weight, and I was in a trance behind him. I knew exactly what it was about him that made me attracted to him and why I couldn’t stay away from him. Jabari was a powerful magnet, pulling me with every word and action. He carried himself like a real man. He walked with confidence, and he was handsome.
“You good, Amina?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I’m good.”
He smiled. “Let me get this stuff cleaned up so you can get home. I’ve taken up too much of your time tonight as it is.”
