Leo’s a pledge at the fraternity hosting the party so he doesn’t get a plus one, but my lovely stepbrother will. While he's not in that particular frat, he's a rugby star, which automatically gives him anything he wants.
Once Kai starts drinking, he'll leave me alone with my friends, because he thinks no one is going to double cross him by flirting with me. That was pre-Leo.
Thankfully, Leo doesn't care about what Kai wants. He wants me and that's all that matters. I've got the perfect outfit already hanging in my closet. It shows more skin than I usually show, but I think my date will appreciate it.
Walking up to Kai's truck in the parking lot, I smile at Amber when he dismisses her because I'm there. That's right, bitch.
I may not have him, but she never will either. If he knew half the cruel things she's said to me these past two years he'd never talk to her again.
I'm only a snitch when it’s convenient for me, so I've kept my mouth shut, but every time he chooses me over her it's all the vindication I need.
Running a red nailed finger up his arm, she whines in his ear. "Why do I have to leave every time she comes around? It's not like you're fucking her."
My smile turns feral when he moves his arm in disgust. "I'm not fucking you either, and I’ve told you a million times to go somewhere else, it’s not happening.”
Her blonde ponytail swings from side to side in anger as she hangs her head in defeat. "Asshole!" She screams back.
I laugh when she walks away. "She's not wrong."
He rolls his eyes. "True. What's up?"
"I need a favor."
He raises an eyebrow. "You never ask for favors. I'm intrigued."
I smile nervously. "Please, take me with you to the Pi Kappa Alpha’s party Friday night. All my friends will be attending, and you've scared all the boys away, so no one is going to ask me. I need a way in, and you're that way in."
"No." He doesn't even think about his answer which pisses me off.
"Why, Kai?"
"Because, some fucked up shit is going down in Pixie Hollow, and I’m sorry but I can't tell you about it. It's just not safe right now."
He's not wrong, they still don’t know that I saw Sierra Rose and the other girls missing their hearts. He must be talking about that. I know from Wonderland gossip that they still don’t have a person of interest.
Placing my hands on my hips, I prepare for war."That's bullshit, Kai. Just say, I can't be a good guard dog if I’m fucking Amber."
"It's not, ask Gunner, he'll be pissed that I told you, but you're our first priority so I'm not going to lie to you. I'm not fucking her any more either, Pres. I shouldn't have done it to begin with." He admits.
No he shouldn't have. "Then take me, I'll be safer with you than with anyone else. If you're at the party, who's to stop me from wandering away again."
A look so lethal passes over his face, it should scare me, but it doesn't. I've got him cornered, and he knows it. "Please, Kai."
"Okay, fuck, as long as you come to my game beforehand." He grumbles.
Flinging myself in his arms, I smile up into his baby blues. "Thank you, and when have I ever missed a home game?"
Kissing my forehead, he smiles making me swoon. "You never do."
"And I never will, Kai Donovan." I admit, all because I'm a lovesick idiot.

Does Kai have an ulterior motive for allowing me to go to the party?
