I would set his precious orchards alight
if he did not return her to her forest
where she belonged.
I rooted through the orchard
and the tentacles tried to stop me
but I cut and cleared them mercilessly.
Until at the very end
a dark-clad figure stood,
his once-boyish face marred with anger.
My eyes narrowed at him.
‘I thought I would find you
hiding here, Hades.’

‘I told you to stay away.’
His words dripped with malice.
I gripped my sword tightly.
‘I saw what you did.
Send her back now,
and I will leave you in peace.’
His expression turned to amusement.
‘You cannot hurt me.’
I lifted my sword in his direction.
‘Do not challenge me.’
For a second
there was silence
and then he stepped forward,
rage clouding his features.
‘You will do nothing. I took her
by her father Zeus’ permission.’
