“Just about a week ago, hunters crossed into Haven Trail’s borders after flipping the trailer carrying multiple rogues thatthey were planning to sell. During that time, we managed to not only kill two of the five hunters that day, but we were also able to capture another two,” I continue, frowning. “The fifth member was arrested but later killed because Daven, a vampire from Aileen’s coven, placed him in a cage with a rogue vampire who was arrested on the same day.”
The royal pack wolves look at members of Aileen’s coven with distrust, some appearing ready to attack at any moment. Julian lets out a warning growl, his eyes glazing over as he links them. Instantly, the royal pack wolves look away in guilt, and I take Julian’s hand in mine, squeezing it in thanks.
“Look, Daven’s actions do not represent Aileen and her coven. He acted out of resentment, seeking retribution for the vampires held captive in the Hunters Association,” I state, allowing a no-nonsense tone to enter my voice. “We are here to work as a team, but if the wolves from the royal pack can’t behave, they will be left out.”
Shocked eyes dart between Julian and me. Thankfully, Julian does not argue against my threat; instead, he wholeheartedly agrees, telling his wolves to behave or miss out on the opportunity.
“Now, we got lucky when capturing the hunters, as the female turned out to be mated to one of the rogues they transported. After agreeing to let them join Haven Trail, Sabrina began to help us plan this attack. Sabrina, please raise your hand,” I continue my explanation, watching the small human raise her hand and sheepishly glance at the vampires.
“Sabrina will explain the patrol routes to the vampires who have just arrived, and we will run a few drills before preparing to headout. The plan is to sneak into their base by midnight and take down all the hunters by two in the morning.”
Aileen takes over at this point, giving additional instructions to her coven. Her members nod, their eyes glowing red with excitement. Julian stiffens beside me and averts his gaze as he breathes in my scent. He must be feeling unnerved right now by the way their eyes glowed in unison.
“Now, we only have eight hours to prepare for this operation,” I continue. “We expect you all to get along so that we can not only rid the supernatural world of a band of hunters but also save the vampires and werewolves they have abducted and abused.”
This time, Julian cuts in, expressing his expectations to those gathered around. With our debriefing done, we quickly break into our units, readying ourselves for tonight’s operation.
By the end of the night, the hunters will be down about two hundred men, and vampires and werewolves will be able to breathe easy for a while.

Gripping the rope above me as the trailer sways slightly, I take in the ten wolves and five vampires crowded into the space, ready to spring forth as soon as the doors open. Julian stands beside me, his body swaying with the moving vehicle and his green eyes focused on the door. Everyone is tense with anticipation, ready to take out the hunters who have been terrorizing this area for decades. They were smart, keeping a low profile that even Aileen and I did not know about. Now that we do, they will be gone come morning light.
The tractor-trailer comes to a slow stop, the engine idling as we hear the sounds of a gate rolling open outside. It seems we have arrived. We wait with bated breath, wondering if someone will be dumb enough to check the “merchandise” in the back. Luckily for us, the trailer moves forward, and we all breathe a small sigh of relief. We are in. Now, all we need to do is wait for the back door to open, and all hell will break loose.
“Just a little longer,” Julian says quietly, everyone looking to him with bloodthirsty grins. For centuries, hunters have captured, tortured, and killed many of our kind. Now it is our turn for revenge.
The trailer drives slower now that Sabrina has been allowed to enter the hunters’ headquarters. It seems the lie of Steven and his men being drunk in the back while watching over the merchandise was taken seriously, and I wonder just what type of leader Steven must have been for his people to believe anything Sabrina said.
It isn’t long before we feel the trailer come to a stop and the engine shut off. It seems we have reached our destination, and now, all we need is for the distraction team to do their job.
“How many wolves did you say you captured?” a familiar voice calls from the end of the trailer where the door is. It’s Marcus.
“Eight” comes Sabrina’s stammered reply. “Three females and five males,” she adds quickly.
I suppress the chuckle threatening to spill from my lips and look around at the fifteen wolves and five vampires in our mix. The hunters will only expect eight wolves inside, tied up with silver chains and drugged with wolfbane to be easily handled. They won’t expect us at all.
“All rogues that no one will look for?” Marcus asks, his gruff voice filled with disdain.
“Y-yes, sir,” Sabrina answers right away.
“Good. I have a client looking for a new she-wolf to use as a toy. If one of the three females looks the best, then we can sell her.”
The locks to the trailer rattle, and I look to Miella, who grins in the darkness, her fangs peeking from under her lips.
Mavric, Aidan,I call out to my theta and beta in our link.Where the hell is our distraction?I ask, shifting from foot to foot while preparing for a fight.Should be arriving right about…Mavric answers, excitement in his voice. Now!
The blaring of an alarm quickly follows his words, and I grin. I can hear curses from outside the door and take a deep breath.
“What the fuck is going on?” Marcus shouts, banging his fist against the trailer door.
“We are under attack, sir!” someone replies quickly.
“By who?” he demands.
Before anyone can answer, Miella kicks open the door, and a group of ten hunters turns to stare back at us in surprise.
