“You’ve been depressed?” I crawled onto the bed, getting on top of her, softly nuzzling my nose against hers. “Because you missed me?”

“Yes. Did you miss me?”

“What do you think?” I asked, the edges of my eyes wrinkling in a smile. “I’ve been losing my mind in this house, blaming myself for letting you go.”

“It wasn’t your choice.”

“I should have…” I trailed my fingers over her dry lips, taking in every detail of her face from the perfect shape of her nose to the left eye that was slightly bigger than the right.

“I like your eyebrows,” I said and brushed my thumb over them.

“You were saying something,” she reminded me. “You said, ‘I should have,’ but you didn’t finish your sentence.”

“Ahh.” I bit the inside of my cheek, unsure if it was wise to say what I’d been thinking.

“What?” She smiled expectantly at me.

“I’ve just blamed myself for not telling you how much I cared. I can’t help thinking that if I’d told you then you wouldn’t have left.”

We were nose to nose with me firmly placed between her legs and leaning on my elbows to avoid crushing her. Her hands raced up my spine making me shudder with delight.

“So tell me now,” she encouraged in a low, intimate voice. “Tell me how much a man would have to care about me to enter the Motherlands illegally and track me down.”

“A lot,” I admitted. “He would have to care awholelot.”

Just tell her that you love her, I pushed myself, but I was scared of frightening her or maybe more scared to bare my naked soul and not have her say it back.

Kissing replaced talking and with eager hands I undressed her. “I’m sorry about our last time together, I wasn’t myself,” I muttered against her neck.

“It’s okay.”

“No, it wasn’t, but I was fucking breaking inside knowing it was my last time with you.”

“Shhh.” She stroked my hair. “I’m here now.”

To fully understand that she was real I sniffed in the sweet fragrance of Christina that I had missed so much. “I missed your smell.”

“And my kisses, did you miss my kisses?” she asked with humor in her voice.

Entangling my hands in her hair I kissed her deeply, entwining my tongue with hers and getting high on the glorious feeling of my woman pressed against me.

“I missed all of you. Your company, your touch, your softness – everything about you.” I kissed her again. “More than you’ll ever know.”

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Of course, anything.”

“Do you think if you had a free pick of every woman in the Motherlands that you would have picked me?”

I furrowed my brows trying to understand where this question was coming from.

“Or do you think you like me so much because I was the first woman you had sex with?”

“Honey…” I took a deep breath. “I’ve just been to a place with more women than men and I didn’t see a single one that compared to you.”

“You mean that?”

“Yes, I’m serious. From the first time I saw you wandering on that small road from the border, I’ve found you gorgeous.”
