“It never closed, and it’s active.”
“I’ll get packing.”I literally swat Mister off the counter. He hisses as he hits the floor.
“That’s… on the other side of Everhaven, Kai. Way,way, too close to Old Hearth.”
His fingers pinch the bridge of his nose, and I frown.
“Yeah, I know…” He’s going to say something else, so I don’t interrupt. I don’t have to take care ofallthe gates. The Militia has taken an interest in them as well. They have also been happening for hundreds of years, according to Mister. It’s not as uncommon as people think but at this regularity, as this will be the dozenth since I’ve started handling them, it is getting out of control.
“We don’t have to go.” He comes over to me, putting his hands onto my bare shoulders, drawing his thumbs across my throat. “But…”
“It’s different than the others.” None have stayed open more than a few hours, which makes the far ones incredibly difficult to take care of.
His search between my eyes is brief before he says, “It may have to do with Kayn. I just have a feeling.”
I suck in a sharp breath. “You want to go.”
He merely shrugs his shoulders. “Only if you agree.” I spread my legs as he edges closer to me. “Because this could risk you getting close to Belial, and I really don’t want that. Not for me, and definitely not for you.”
I swallow roughly, struggling to get it down.
“That’s a long drive.”
“Lots of road head,” he croons and I smack his chest.
“Mister couldn’t come if that’s the case…”
“All good, I’ll walk through the Phantasm. I can get there before you. You can walk through with me and get there faster...”
I groan and shake my head. I’ve done it once, and never again, fuck that. I want to avoid crossing into the Beyond at any spectrum, and according to Mister, the Phantasm is linear to it.
“If we do a straight shot we can get there in fifteen… maybe sixteen days.” He wraps his arm around my neck and pulls my chest to his. I keep my head craned back, and when he smilesoh so sweetlyat me, I cave and encircle him with an embrace. “Is that a yes?”
Rolling my lips together, I take a deep breath through my nose. Staring into his patient eyes, it’s crazy to think one year ago where I was. To think that this man has slithered his way under my skin and become one with me. That I would be giving him everything that I am without question, and it’s what I want.
I want this; Sex. Pancakes. Our cat. To kill demons andbad people. Him. I want all of him.
“I’ll get packing.”
He grins, his fangs hanging over the bottom set of his teeth. “That’s my good little demon.”
Then he kisses me with a passion that is only mine to have.
As I am only his. In this life, in our next, and all the one’s that fall in between.
Extended Epilogue
Xeraphine
A few hundred Years Later
Pleasure shoots up my spine. “Fuck… that’s it. Gods, that’s it.”
The things he does with his hands will never cease to amaze me. Regardless if it’s the second day they’ve been on me, or the thousandth.
My head rests against his shoulder, and I sink into the massage he’s providing me. The sun is setting, so the warmth of his bare skin against mine will carry into the chill night that is to follow. The only sound that contests my groans of bliss is the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.
Kai’s thumbs press into my muscle, and I bite hard on my bottom lip. He drags them up the nape of my neck, and I’m officially a puddle.
