Why would Fox even like me?Sure, I know I’m cute, maybe even good-looking, but is that enough for anyone to like someone?Especially a straight guy.Fox can’t stand me—he finds me annoying and doesn’t bother hiding it.So why would Landon think there’s something more?
“You’re definitely not paying attention to what you’re doing.”I look up, startled, pulling out my earphones.Blaze is leaning on the back of my chair, smiling down at me.
“Mind if I sit?”he asks, gesturing to the empty chair.
I glance around for Landon, hoping he doesn’t lose it if he sees Blaze.“Uh, sure,” I say.Blaze pulls out the chair and sits across from me, and I get a good look at him. He’s wearing a gray hoodie that brings out the silver in his eyes. His black hair’s a little tousled but somehow still looks neat.He really is attractive.
“What are you doing here?”I ask, glancing at his hands for any sign of books. It’s hard to picture Blaze coming to the library to study.
“I’m here with someone.I spotted you from across the room, thought I’d come say hi.And, uh, sorry about yesterday—Fox can be an ass sometimes.”
“I’m not really mad,” I say, shrugging.
He nods, glancing down at my open notebook.“So, what’re you working on?”
“Oh, it’s just an assignment for history.”
Blaze raises his eyebrows, a curious smile forming.“I don’t think I ever asked—what’s your major?”
“Political science.”
He raises his brows.“Planning to become a politician, huh?”
I chuckle, shaking my head.“I’m not sure yet.I just like politics.Maybe I’ll figure out what I want to do after college.”
“Hmm…” He nods, considering my answer.
“What about you?”I ask.
“I’m in mechanical engineering.I’ve always loved cars, so I figured working with them wouldn’t be so bad.”
“Wow, that’s impressive.”
He smiles.“Thanks.So, listen—I wanted to see if you’d come to a party with me tomorrow?”
I blink, caught off guard.“Uh…”
He chuckles at my expression.“There’s a frat party tomorrow, and I thought it’d be fun if you joined me.”
I shift in my seat, nervous.“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”
“Come on, do you ever party, Cam?”
I chew on my lip, feeling awkward.“Not really… I don’t think they’re my thing.”
He smirks, tilting his head.“How would you know if you’ve never tried it?They can actually be fun, you know.”
“Maybe.I just… I don’t know.”
Blaze laughs, shaking his head.“Look, you should come.I’ll pick you up, and you can just hang out with me.Nothing to worry about.”
I can’t help but ask, “Why?”
He looks at me, a little surprised.“Why what?”
“Why do you want me to come with you?”
He grins, almost like he finds the question amusing.“Because you’re my friend, Cam.I don’t know what’s up between you and Fox, but I like hanging out with you.”
