On The Edge
FoxglaresatEliasthrough the side mirror, his jaw tightening with each passing second.Out of instinct, I reach over and place my hand on his.His gaze drops to my hand, softening slightly.
“Promise me you won’t say anything to him,” I whisper.
“You know I can’t promise that,” Fox mutters, his voice low but tinged with frustration.
“Please?”I pout, biting my bottom lip—something I know drives him crazy. His eyes lock onto mine, then drift to my lips, lingering.
“I wanna fucking kiss you right now,” he growls softly.
“Please don’t.You know you’re not ready for it,” I tease with a small smile.
He laughs under his breath, shaking his head, but his attention shifts back to Elias.“I fucking despise that little shit,” Fox says through gritted teeth.
“Just ignore him.Pretend he’s not even there,” I plead, squeezing his hand gently.
Fox lets out a heavy sigh, his blue eyes softening as they meet mine.“You’re cute,” he says suddenly, his voice calmer.
“And you’re hot,” I counter, running my fingers lightly through his freshly cut hair.“Nice haircut.”
“Did it for you,” he replies with a smirk, leaning in slightly.
“And I’m proud,” I say, smiling as I quickly kiss his cheek before opening the car door.“Stay here.Don’t make a scene, okay?”
Fox chuckles but nods.“Go handle your ex-flame, babe,” he teases.
I step out of the car, shutting the door behind me, and take a deep breath. As I approach Elias, I can already tell he’s nervous—the way his hands fidget and his weight shifts from foot to foot gives him away.
“Elias?”I say, keeping my voice even.
“Hey,” he says, his eyes darting past me toward Fox, who’s clearly watching us.
“Hi.What are you doing here?”
“Uh… I was in the area and wanted to see you,” Elias stammers, clearing his throat. His gaze keeps flicking between Fox and me.
“Are you guys… together?”Elias finally asks, his voice hesitant.
I hesitate.Do I owe him an explanation?Do I even want to explain?
“I mean…” Elias trails off, shifting uncomfortably.“I saw you two in the car, and…” He sighs, looking at his feet.
“Elias,” I say, my patience thinning.“Why are you here?”
“I wanted to hang out… maybe talk.I’m leaving tomorrow, and I thought… maybe we could work things out?”His voice trails off as if he realizes how ridiculous it sounds.
“Work things out?”I repeat, narrowing my eyes at him.
“Yeah.I mean, we had a thing for each other, remember?”he says, his tone tinged with desperation.
“Elias, I’m with Fox,” I say firmly.
“What?”He blinks, like the idea had never even occurred to him.
“You heard him, punk,” Fox says, appearing at my side like a shadow. His arm loops protectively around my shoulders.“He’s with me now.”
Elias freezes, his disappointment and frustration written all over his face.
