The sound of the glass door sliding back caught my attention, and it was Creed, and Legend walking out here. Legend was leading, and Creed kept a good distance. The two of them weren’t talking to each other, and it was driving me the fuck crazy. Legend was mad at his brother for getting him in troublewith him. Then, Creed’s ass had the nerve to be mad with Legend for being mad with him. I wasn’t going to allow the two of them to stress me out, so I was staying out of that drama for as long as I could.
“What’s up ma?” Legend asked, coming over to me, wrapping a single arm around me, and he kissed my cheek.
“How was the doctor?” I asked him.
“Straight. We only got our flu shots. I didn’t cry though,” the second he said that last part, I already knew he was trying to be messy. Creed was afraid of needles and would give the nurses in there a hard time. He wouldn’t be crying like a baby or anything but let’s just say that his ass would drop a few tears and would prolong the process by continuing to ask if the shots were going to hurt.
“You saying that like I was the one that cried or something. Get your son, ma before I have to tackle him,” Creed shot.
“Ya’ll please don’t start that shit. Please. Did ya’ll eat already? If not, I cooked dinner,” I let them know.
“We ate. Pops took us somewhere,” Legend responded.
“Okay, well go upstairs, and take your showers,” I let them know, and they both walked off.
“Creed. Come here,” I called after my son. He sighed, and he walked over to me. There was a sadness that was in his eyes that had been there since the night he was arrested.
Creed wasn’t the same after that. That was truly a situation that had scared the shit out of him. Even though the case was thrown out, it was still the topic of discussion all over social media. His first day back to school, he told me that all day, people had been talking about it. I was worried about him because I knew how closed in Creed could be. He didn’t like to talk about his true feelings, and bottling all of that in wasn’t good. Trust me, I know from experience.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him.
“Nothing, ma. I’m tired,” he responded.
“Did something happen in school?” I urged.
“Nah,” he was short.
I wasn’t going to push. At least for right now I wouldn’t. I stared him in his eyes, wanting him to just stop being so stubborn, and tell me what was bothering him, but I knew he wouldn’t. Instead, I just put both hands on the side of his face, kissed his forehead, let him know that I loved him, and told him to head upstairs, so that he could get ready for bed.
As he was walking, heading for the patio door, that’s when Law was walking out. I felt like he might have stopped in the bathroom downstairs to pee. He’d worked today, so he was still in his burgundy suit that he wore to work, but the suit jacket wasn’t on. His white, button-down shirt was tucked into the burgundy bottoms that fit so well on him, and at the neckline, he had the buttons undone, and his tie was hanging loosely. When Creed reached him, he shook it up with him, hugged him, and Creed went in the house. Law was very much still upset with Creed, but he didn’t hate him to the point that the two of them weren’t talking.
I was finished with watering the plants for the most part, so I picked up the watering can, walked over to the patio, and I sat it down. Law came out, and the patio table that was out here, he pulled the chair out that was at the head of the table, sat down, opened his legs a little bit, and I stood right in between his legs. His large, tatted hands lifted, putting them behind his head, and he gazed up at me.
“Your garden looks nice, mami,” his deep voice let me know, and I smiled at his words.
“Thank you, papi. How did it go at the doctor? They really didn’t say much,” I said.
“Legend like two inches taller than Creed. Creed weighs 185, and Legend was just at 175. They only got their flu shots. Legendwent and took that shit like a man, while you know Creed had to do all that extra shit, needing to see how big the needle was, asking a thousand times if it was going to hurt. You know, all that performative shit that he likes to do. Nigga did shed a quick tear though, but he wiped that motha fucka quick, so that we didn’t call him out on it. He wanna walk around with gold teeth, pants sagging, but scared to get a fuckin shot,” he talked shit to me about our son.
“Everybody don’t like shots. I don’t like them, either,” I said, and he sucked his teeth.
“There you go. You going to defend his ass no matter the situation,” he said. I laughed, and came closer to him, putting my knee in his lap.
Because I was in the house, I was casual. I was dressed in a red, and gold sweat suit from the brandEd Hardy. The jacket was cropped, and it was a zip up, so my flat stomach was exposed. The pants fit me perfectly, hugging my hips. I wore thong sandals, since I had been outside in the garden, watering the plants. My hair was pulled up, with a claw that kept it out of my face. I’d showered already, after getting in the house earlier from work, but I’ve been out here for the past thirty minutes, doing things in the garden, so I was going to shower again before getting in bed, and calling it a night.
“You just got your common sense back and wasn’t fuckin with me, so you don’t know about some of the cases that I have coming up. I have a juvenile case tomorrow. His name is Justin. I’m sure you saw it on the news. He killed his mama’s boyfriend, but he did it in self- defense. Her boyfriend used to be over there, beating her ass. Justin did what he had to do to take care of his mama, but they locked him up for that shit. They trying to charge him as an adult. I’m hoping that they can reach a verdict tomorrow, so that he can go home. I hate that he even had to besitting in that bitch for this long. It’s a shame how they do us,” Law shared with me.
“I saw that when it made the news. It was brief though. I didn’t know you had that case. I know that you’ll represent him well, and I’m sure that he’ll be able to walk out of that courtroom tomorrow a free man. Who’s going to raise him? Is he going to go back in his mother’s care?” I wanted to know.
“Nah. That bitch so fuckin weird. I was on the haunt for months, trying to trace her ass down because I needed her to be subpoenaed to take the stand in court, and tell what really happened. She don’t want anything to do with her son. She mad at him for killing her boyfriend. Some parents just be sick in the fuckin head, and don’t deserve kids. I could say a lot of shit about you, but I can’t speak negatively on you as a parent. You raise my boys well. You got other flaws, but you a damn good mama,” he said, and I playfully pushed him, while rolling my eyes.
“You love me, flaws, and all, negro,” I let him know, getting ready to remove my knee from his lap, so that I could back up, but he removed one of his hands from behind his head, and he put it on my ass, cuffing me, keeping me in place.
That other hand came around, and it went for the top of my zipper, and like he knew I wouldn’t mind, he unzipped the zipper all the way down, having my breast pop out for him, since I wasn’t wearing a bra. I saw the hearts in his eyes, once he saw my full breast. He took his other hand off my ass, sat up in his chair a little bit, and he cuffed them in his hands, while looking at me. My eyes would go from him to the sliding door, thinking that one of the boys were going to come out, wanting something.
“Law, stop. Your damn sons might sneak up on us,” I fussed, shaking a little bit because with just the touch of his hands, he was getting me hot, and bothered, but I wasn’t trying to take it there with him because I was too focused on getting caught.
“They upstairs. Didn’t you tell them to go take showers? They not coming out here,” he said, being slick, and he removed my jacket that I was wearing, throwing it to the floor. I tried to bend down, so that I could pick it up, and put it back on, but his ass wouldn’t let me. My knee that was still in his thigh, he held me right there, and he had a firm grip, too.
