Contentment washed through him.

As if she sensed him, Eve stirred. Her eyes opened, and cobalt irises seared him to his soul. Then she smiled, and he came undone. He bent to kiss her. She lifted her head to meet him. Their mouths met. Lips parted. Tongues tasted.

Warmth spread from his chest.

“Time for bed,” he whispered against her lips, and she nodded.

He straightened, and she took the hand he offered, curling her fingers around his as he assisted her to her feet. Her hair fell around her shoulders, a cascade of strawberry-blond waves that caught the reflection of the fire and glowed.

Mesmerized, he lifted his hand and claimed a strand, his fingers stroking through the softness. He’d never seen hair like hers before. The color changed with the light, the deeper russet tones coming alive as the sun set below the horizon.

She was a goddess.

His goddess.

His life. His purpose. His future. All changed the moment their paths crossed.

He existed—for her.

And she—for him.

All he had to do was find the words to convince her to stay.

He swept her hair over her shoulder, cupped the back of her neck, and pulled her to him. The brush of her breasts against his chest sent a pulse of need straight to the head of his cock. She lifted her chin, eager and willing for his lips to claim hers, and he would have, except Jeff farted, and she covered her mouth with a palm as she started to giggle.

A definite sign she needed sleep.

He did too. “Go up to bed,” he said, smoothing his hand over the round curve of her ass and giving a squeeze. “I’ll wake Davis and make sure he gets to his room.”

“What about you?” she asked, lifting onto her toes and pressing a soft kiss to his lips. “Are you coming?”

“Yeah, I’ll be up in a few minutes.” He brushed his mouth against hers, kissed her quick, and let her go. “Go on.” He gave her ass a couple of light pats to get her moving.

“God, you’re bossy,” she mumbled, shuffling a few steps toward the door.

Adam snorted. The woman really had no idea. “Eve?”

“Mm?” She turned her head to look at him over her shoulder.

“Be asleep or naked when I get there. Your choice.”

Her sweet smile turned into her sassy grin. “Are those my only two options?”

“Yes.”

“What if I’m asleepandnaked?”

He grinned back at her, and the palm of his hand itched to land a smack on her ass. “Try it and find out.”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-FOUR

Alone for thefirst time since Adam had found her, Eve wandered through the basement level of the impressive lodge. Well-appointed for catering to the needs of guests, she found his and hers change rooms, a pool, sauna, fitness center, and a glass-walled yoga studio.

And next to Doc’s large medical unit, a smaller room equipped with a height-adjustable treatment table. From the assortment of linens and massage oils, she gathered the lodge had offered spa or relaxation packages to attract a greater variety of clients.

Made sense. Isolated in a low valley between two mountain ranges, the previous owners would have had to offer guests a five-star experience to build a sustainable business in such a remote location.

From what Adam had said, he and his team hadn’t been here for long. When she asked at breakfast if they planned to stay, his response had been vague, and a spike of disappointment had stabbed straight through her ribs and into her heart.
