When she released her seatbelt and jumped on me, I knew I did good picking this cabin. “Yes! I love it,” she said excitedly.

The cabin was an A-frame that sat on a secluded lake with a boat dock and was surrounded by pine trees. It had a wraparound porch with a set of Adirondack chairs that I couldn’t wait to snuggle into with Ember on my lap, wrapped in a blanket and mugs of hot chocolate. Inside, the cabin was warm and cozy, with a stone fireplace, a small kitchen, and a loft bedroom that had a bathroom and overlooked the space below.

“Oh my God, Colton, this is… it’s perfect,” Ember said, her eyes wide with wonder as she took it all in. “How did you find this place?”

“I have my ways,” I said, winking at her as I set our bags down. The truth was, my mom had helped me.

She turned to me, her eyes shining in the fading light. “Thank you. For this. For everything.”

“We needed this,” I said, walking over and pulling her into my arms. “I want to make up for lost time.” I kissed her, a soft, slow kiss that was filled with all the promises I had once broken, and all the new ones I was ready to make.

Chapter 34

Ember

Last night and today have been a dream. Colton did an excellent job finding this place. We’re still here another night, but I’m already thinking of when we can visit again.

After we got settled in last night, Colton surprised me with having groceries delivered and then cooked me a delicious dinner of steak, baked potatoes, and broccoli. After dinner, we curled up in front of the fireplace, where we spent the rest of the evening.

This morning we slept in, something neither of us have done in so long, and it felt nice to just stay in bed with my man, wrapped in his arms. When we finally managed to untangle ourselves from the sheets we showered together, dressed, and went for a hike.

The air was chilly, but the sun was warm as we walked a trail through the woods. We didn’t talk much, we just enjoyed our surroundings, taking in the quiet and relaxing nature around us. It felt like we were the only two people in the world, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn’t waiting for the other shoe to drop.

After our hike we enjoyed stuffed chicken and roasted potatoes, a meal we cooked together and one I was quite proud of. It turned out wonderful.

Now, we were snuggled together in one of the adirondack chairs staring up at the starlit night sky. The fire that Colton built in the pit crackled in front us was enough to keep us both warm. I felt relaxed as I breathed in the scent of woodsmoke mixed with the smell of pine and the musk of Colton’s cologne.

I could hear the sound of an owl somewhere in the woods as I leaned into Colton’s chest, enjoying the rhythm of his heart beat with his arms wrapped around me.

“This is nice,” I whispered, as his thumb traced my side.

“Yeah,” he replied, his voice a low rumble. “Perfect.”

His hand, which had been on my arm, slowly moved, his fingers starting to knead the tense muscles of my shoulder. A soft sigh escaped my lips, and I leaned further into his touch, my body melting against his. I tilted my head to give him better access, my eyes closing in pure bliss.

The kneading of my shoulder continued for a moment before his hand slipped lower, a little too low to be accidental. He was stroking the curve of my neck, his thumb brushing over the sensitive skin just below my ear. He leaned down, his lips ghosting over my temple.

“You’re beautiful, Ember,” he murmured, his voice thick with a desire that was impossible to miss.

My breath hitched. The air around us, already warm from the fire, seemed to intensify. His hand moved again, this time sliding from my shoulder, around my front. He cupped the weight of my breast in his hand, his thumb brushing over my nipple, which had already hardened under my shirt. A soft gasp of pleasure came from me.

“Is that a yes?” he whispered against my ear, his lips brushing my skin, a shiver running through me.

I couldn’t speak. All I could do was lean into his touch, my head falling back against his shoulder. My hand, which had been resting on his thigh, now gripped the chair’s armrest. When I felt his hand leave my breast I whimpered in protest. But he just chuckled softly as his hand moved lower, his fingers finding the button of my jeans, popping it open in one try.

I held my breath as his hand slid inside, the coolness of his fingers a startling contrast to the heat of my body. My panties were already wet, a testament to how quickly he could get me to this point.

His fingers found my clit instantly and began slow, deliberate circles that had my hips buck forward on their own accord.

He turned my head to meet his and leaned in, his lips finally finding mine. His tongue traced my mouth before pushing into my mouth. He kissed me slowly as his fingers worked my clit. He spread my wetness with a finger, then slowly inserted two fingers in me. I gasped into his mouth, my legs began to tremble. As his fingers moved faster, his kisses became harder.

“Oh, God, Colton,” I whimpered against his lips, my hips thrusting against his hand, my body begging for a release.

He pulled his head back, his eyes dark with desire. “Let go, Firefly,” he rasped, his voice rough. “Give me this.”

The words were all I needed. I closed my eyes, and with one last push of his fingers, I cried out as my release crashed over me. I collapsed back against his chest, breathless, spent, and utterly his.

After a moment, my breathing calmed, and a blissful haze settled over me. I didn’t want the moment to end. Keeping my gaze on his, I slid off his lap, my legs shaking slightly as my knees hit the ground.
