Wade’s eyes widened as the two omegas wavedand ran toward the beater car they shared. As Wade turned to me, I shrugged.“They’re…a handful?”
He grinned. “Austin is going to love them.”
Groaning, I leaned against the doorframe.“Don’t threaten me with something like that. I haven’t done anything to deservethat man coming into my life.”
Wade was still smiling as he waved to theboys as they pulled away. “He’d love seeing their antics and helping themcreate even more chaos.”
Straightening, I moved away from the doorand gestured for Wade to come inside. “Absolutely not.”
That image was going to haunt my dreams.
Finding the whole thing funny, Wade was allsmiles as he came into the house. As I shut the door, he inhaled deeply. “Oh,that does smell wonderful.”
I shrugged. “Just something I whipped up.”
“Not according to the boys.” He chuckled asI waved my hand toward the front of the house.
“They exaggerate.”
“They’re funny and cute and are clearlyvery protective of you.” Wade shook his head as I scoffed. “Oh no, I’ve seenthat nosiness before on the faces of my friends. They seem to think the worldof you.”
Shrugging again, I led him toward thekitchen. “They needed a job and unfortunately had a hard time finding anythingafter they graduated high school. They’d worked a few places, but like you’veseen, they’re a handful and I think some of the people they worked for weren’tquite as well-behaved as they should’ve been. According to their resume, atseveral companies they only lasted a week.”
“Ah.” Wade nodded. “Yes, some peoplemisunderstand natural flirts like those two. And it’s even worse when peoplelike that know someone is in a vulnerable position.”
“Yeah, but they’re doing better now. We’restaying busy enough I can give them plenty of hours, so it’s working out.”
And if it didn’t, I had a guest room theycould stay in, but luckily, it hadn’t come to that.
“Austin had a few instances like that whenhe was younger and a little less infamous.” Wade grinned. “But then theyfigured out who he was and he had a wonderful time getting revenge.”
I chuckled, but even I could hear thefrustration in my voice. “Yeah, but until we become that famous, we’ve got toput up with the occasional assholes.”
I started walking toward the stove, but hishand on my arm stopped me. “What happened?”
The most professional thing would’ve beento say nothing, but I didn’t have many people to vent to. “We did a party lastweek and let’s just say the couple got a bit handsy with all of us. The boysended up kneeing the alpha in the groin and I had a…difficult time getting ridof an omega who didn’t want to take no for an answer.”
“Wow.” His eyes widened. “Are you okay?”
Nodding, I forced myself to let out abreath and relax. “Yeah, I’m all for doing whatever makes you happy in yourmarriage, but it’s got to be consensual. But when we agreed not to presscharges, they promised to give us a good review.”
Wade winced. “Getting the police to believeyou would be hard.”
I shrugged. “Nothing I can do about it.We’re just going to try to do a bit more homework on anyone they know.”
“It sounds like your boys handledthemselves well.”
“Hey, they’re not mine.” I shook my head, grinning. “I’m not into high maintenance or troublemakers.”
He chuckled, giving my arm a pat beforestepping away. “Not even tempted? They’re funny and attractive.”
Was he fishing?
“I can appreciate beauty without needing toown it.” I thought that would let us move on, but he wasn’t ready.
As he wandered around the kitchen runninghis fingers over the different surfaces, he shrugged. “I can understand that, but Dakota pointed out that you weren’t really flirting with any of the subs atthe club, so I wasn’t sure if you were interested in the boys but just didn’tthink it was appropriate.”
He had to be fishing, right?
