Austin froze, then his eyes widened and he started to wiggle again. “Oh, please let it be the cute little one at the back that night. Please say it’s him. He was so shocked and he’d blushed so prettily.”
Silas nodded. “Yep, he came in to apologize and thank us for telling your buddy Bertie that he wasn’t one of the troublemakers. I told him to check out the store so he could really see what we were about and before he even walked down one aisle all the way, he was running out looking like his head was going to explode. Don’t embarrass the customers, Trouble.”
“The little cop was blushing? Now that’s a very interesting response.” Austin looked back over at me, one eyebrow raised. “But I’ll be good.”
I doubted that, but he’d keep my secret for now.
“And on that note, I’m going to escape.” His stairs were starting to be too comfortable. I gave Austin a stern glare as I headed for the back door, hoping the paparazzi had gone from out front. “Don’t tease the cops. That’s all we need.”
Austin pouted. “But he’s so cute and he just—”
“No.” Silas’s voice rang out with mine as we both barked the order at Austin.
He just huffed. “You’re both no fun.”
He might be right, but at least I wouldn’t get arrested.
****
Two hours and dozens of ridiculous internet searches about things for Dakota and Austin later, I still couldn’t focus. I kept going back to what Austin had said.
If you know it’s right, just go for it.
It’d always been that easy to know something was wrong, so maybe the opposite wasn’t so ridiculous. I’d just always heard people talk about how difficult it was to know that their partner was the right person. Austin and Tanner were the only omegas I’d ever met who’d said they’d just known it was right from the very beginning.
Fuck it.
I was tired of overthinking it and just tired of everything.
Setting my computer on the coffee table, I picked up the phone and started texting Russ. Maybe it was silly, but I tried to do my best to alternate who I texted so I didn’t end up talking to one of them more than the other.
I probably should have given Russ more time just because we hadn’t talked as much as I had with Graham, but since most of my conversations with Graham had revolved around work until recently, I didn’t really think that counted.
What are you guys doing?
Yeah, lame start but they didn’t seem to mind if I was boring sometimes.
He answered right away, even though I was pretty sure they should be having dinner.
Just hanging out at the house. Trying to talk G into dessert.
For a ripped guy, he had the diet of a child.
Didn’t eat enough vegetables?
I could picture his frustrated pout when the text came through.
Yes. He’s so mean.
Any leftovers?
I didn’t care what they’d had for dinner, I just needed to get out of the house. If I got to hang out with them too, I was going to count it as the perfect end to a long day.
Anytime blue eyes…come on over. And bring a change of clothes. We’re kidnapping you.
I wasn’t sure that was how a kidnapping was supposed to work, but I grinned anyway.
Yes Sir.
