Those words almost killed him, but he gotthem out before turning and pushing his way through the cops behind him. A fewgrinned once the angry one was out of the shop and one even waved at Silas likethey were buddies. They really had staked out his place for too long.

As they followed the angry one out, thecutie at the back whispered to a colleague. “Who is he? I mean, he knows thechief and calls him Bertie.”

I giggled when the other cop rolled hiseyes. “You really are way too innocent for this job.”

Silas walked around and locked the dooronce the last of the stragglers were out the door. There were a few expressionsthat looked like they were sad to see the sex toys disappear from sight. I hada feeling the police force was kinkier than I’d expected.

Cops had always been off my dating listbecause they were usually too sweet or too angry, but maybe I’d been toojudgmental. But looking at Silas’s dirty smile as he walked around the counter,I knew that didn’t matter anymore.

“You, Trouble, are a handful.” Wrapping mein his arms, he pulled me tightly to his chest. “I don’t know whether to punishyou for antagonizing the cops or spank you for fixing the situation.”

I gave him a sexy pout and wiggled myerection against him. “Spank me, of course.”

He chuckled. “You went right to the top tofix the problem.”

I waved my hand as I shook my head. “No, I couldhave called the governor, but he’s out of town this weekend, so I figuredstaying local might be better.”

I was being serious, but Silas laughed. Isnorted and explained. “They’re just lucky Mikey is out of town with thegovernor. He’s not going to be happy next week when he hears about this.”

Silas sighed but had a sly grin. “Ishouldn’t ask, but Mikey?”

“Michael is the superintendent of the statepolice. He likes to keep his eye on everything that happens even if it doesn’tdirectly relate to his job. He has political aspirations too and has been notso subtly hinting at how I’d feel about funding his campaign if he ran foroffice.”

“What am I going to do with you, Trouble?”He grinned and gave me a tender kiss.

“It wasn’t like I called the president orsomething crazy. I just fixed a problem before it got out of hand.” It wasn’tthat dramatic, or that complicated. “They weren’t even going to ask anyquestions before they arrested you. And my lawyer is at the same conventionthat the governor’s at, so I’d have had to call Tanner to get his lawyer’sinfo. He’d have gone insane.”

Tanner always looked so calm and rationaluntil someone came after anyone he considered family…and I had a feeling he wasstarting to see Silas as family.

Chapter 18

Silas

When he’d started teasing the cops, for asplit second, my life had flashed before my eyes. After that, it’d been easy tosee he had the situation well in hand, but my dealings with them hadn’t alwaysgone as smoothly. Especially on nights where the fucker was involved.

Most of the other guys were just doingtheir jobs, and a few even seemed curious about the shop, but he’d been out forme.

Until Austin had very neatly put him in hisplace.

“You’re kind of scary, Trouble.” I grinnedas he laughed.

Wiggling close, he widened his eyes andgave me a sweet, innocent look. “Does that mean you’re going to have to put mein my place to make sure I haven’t forgotten who’s in charge, Master?”

That wasn’t a bad idea.

I smacked his ass. “Go get your collars offthe nightstand upstairs. Both of them.”

Austin gave a low moan and shivered. “Yes,Master.”

I handed him the key to the apartment andsmacked his ass again. “Now, slave.”

That didn’t make him function any faster ashe did a sexy walk toward the back of the building, but he was clearly excitedabout what would happen. Looking over his shoulder, he arched his ass out justenough to draw my eye. “Yes, Master.”

Trouble was feeling very good tonight.

Evidently playing strategy games with copswas an aphrodisiac.

When I heard him running up the stairs, Igrinned and tossed the cushion that was on a chair behind the counter to thefloor. Then I walked around the desk to make sure the locks were secure and thefront lights all turned out. I didn’t want any more interruptions while I wasshowing Trouble the importance of paperwork.
