“But did you realize that if he was shyenough that you needed to make the first move, you were also going to need tomake the first moves on other things?” He said it carefully and I couldn’tdecide if he thought he was breaking it to me gently or if he thought I was anidiot. Either way, I wasn’t sure I appreciated it.
Because yes, that thought had occurred tome while we were having coffee.
“It just means he’s not going to be thetype to rush me.” Most of the mechanics weren’t going to be that unfamiliar.I’d had sex with women and hadtechnicallyfooled around with guys. Ialso had a penis, which should be helpful.
Just because I’d never kissed a man didn’tmean it would be like kissing an alien.
“He’s not from another planet.”
Gray chuckled. “Don’t you remember, men arefrom Mars and women are from Venus, so technically you’re kissing a member ofyour own species, not an alien.”
“See. That’s what I said.”
His voice grew softer, and the humor fadedaway. “But a kiss at the end of the first date is very different from lettingsome guy jerk you off when you’re drunk.”
“I hope so. He spilled his beer on myshoes.” It was my turn to roll my eyes.
Gray chuckled. “You’ll never let me livethat down. It was just a little bit, and those shoes washed out.”
I would remind him of that night until hewas too old for even little blue pills to work. “That is not the point. But Idon’t picture him as the type to get wasted on a date, so I think I’m good.”
“You never know, it’s the quiet ones youhave to worry about.” The laughter in Gray’s voice said he was secretly wishingterrible or kinky things on me.
Probably both.
“It’s just a first date. He seemsfunctional and like he has a good head on his shoulders. I’m not worried aboutit.” Aside from the stalking thing, there wasn’t anything about Lane that mademe uneasy. I was nervous, and slightly uncomfortable if I was being honest, butnothing about him said creepy or weird.
As for the kinky part, there would be timeto figure that out later.
“You said he models lingerie for a living. Whatwas he wearing at Starbucks? I’m just curious, not judging, so no offensemeant.” I had to admit that if the situation were reversed, I’d be curious aswell.
I wasn’t sure how separate his work lifewas from his home life, but asking that the first time we actually spoke seemedrude. If it wasn’t something I’d ask a woman on the first date, I thought it’dbe a good idea not to question a man about it. Asking what kind of underwear awoman wore would get me slapped, or arrested possibly, so I wasn’t going to askLane.
“Slim-fitting jeans and a T-shirt. He’slean, and everything fits tighter than most of my straight friends would wearbut nothing that said overtly feminine.” A lot of people had jobs where theydid things they wouldn’t normally do in their personal life. Just because hewore feminine things on the website didn’t mean he brought that into hispersonal life.
Right?
“Would it make a difference to you if hewas wearing something like that under his clothes or when he was at home?” Grayhad spoken carefully, and I knew he was trying to make sure I’d looked atthings from every angle. That didn’t mean the question was easy, however.
“I don’t know. It’s never made a differencewhen I dated women, so I can’t see how it would with a guy.” I started pacingaround the kitchen and finally just shrugged. “Eventually you end up naked, soeverything else is really just decoration.”
Gray snickered. “So you don’t care how thepresent is dressed up as long as you get to play with it?”
That sounded dirtier than I’d intended.“That’s not exactly what I meant.”
Well, it kind of was, but the way he’d saidit was filled with more innuendo than I’d planned. He laughed. “I’m going tohave so much fun wrapping your Christmas present this year. You have no idea.”
Lord, what had I gotten myself into?
“Just don’t scare my mailman. I alreadymake him nervous.” He was a cautious little thing that always went in theopposite direction every time he saw me coming. I felt like a big dog in a yardthat just wanted to say hi but scared the hell out of the guy no matter what Idid. It was a little bit disconcerting. I couldn’t imagine what he’d do if Graygot too creative.
“I’ll wrap it in plain paper before I sendit. Nothing scandalous.”
Just what I needed. Plain paper packagesarriving at my house. It’d look like I was ordering weird shit online.Thatwould make the mailman feel so much better. “Don’t get me arrested or make mymailman refuse to come back. That’s all I’m asking.”
I was going to end up on the news becauseof one of his jokes. I could already see it.
Gray laughed, not sounding sincere in theleast. “I promise.”
