Jain
Icut the engine, wondering why every time I drove to this delightful little house did my body seem to sigh with relief. It still had the same effect on me as when I’d first seen it, but I didn’t know if that was entirely to do with the man that resided within its walls.
Evan Silver.
What I was doing right now was unacceptable.
I was cheating on my fiancé. Not with my body—but with my mind. In my mind, I was simplygiving in.My knuckles barely grazed the door when it opened, revealing the heavenly being that had captured my heart several years ago.
My eyes danced over his physique, greedily following the contour of his arms, his shirt cuffs rolled up to reveal the hairs on his olive skin, his silver watch glinting under the light. The fingers that could reduce me to a wreck within seconds were next in my eye line, and I gasped when I noticed them lacing with mine instantly. He pulled me in, closing the gap between us as I finally gazed at his face.
Electric green eyes framed by thick dark lashes, the stubble on his face only lending to his looks even more. His lips parted briefly, his hand pushing the door shut firmly behind me. His scent filled my nostrils, and I felt giddy with excitement when I heard his voice rumble quietly in my ear.
“I’m not sure I can let you go this time.”
My eyes met his, my heart wrenching when I saw the raw emotion there. I tried to speak but I couldn’t.
“I’m not sure I’ll want to,” I confessed, my fingers dancing along his collar as he sighed, leaning his forehead against mine in a familiar way.
“As much as I want to take you upstairs right now, we need to talk.”
I nodded, my body aching with lust and desire when he moved away. I followed him as he tugged his tie off roughly, tossing it onto the kitchen table as he grabbed a bottle of red wine, lifting it to me.
“Would you like—”
“Yes. All the way to the top.”
He smiled, and I watched him force the corkscrew into the bottle, twisting it slowly as the muscles on his forearm tensed, making my heart do somersaults inside my chest. Finally, he succeeded in uncorking the wine, slowly turning the cork from the screw as I stared at his hands mindlessly.
“It needs to breathe,” he explained, and I nodded like I understood.
“I should never have left you,” I began, and he nodded.
“No, you shouldn’t,” he muttered, leaning forward on the counter to stare at me, his gaze flickering from my eyes to my lips before landing on my wedding finger. He scowled, and I moved it behind my back out of sight guiltily.
“Onlyyoucould make me feel guilty for wearing an engagement ring.” I smiled as he continued to gaze at me.
“So, take it off,” Evan smirked, and a jolt of heat spread through my body.
“Evan, I’m not sure what to do,” I confessed, my voice barely above a whisper.
He poured the wine, the sound of it splashing into the empty glass the only noise in the room. He pushed it over the table, raising his eyebrows at me when I walked over slowly, thanking him quietly. Our fingers brushed as I took it, as a soft moan escaped my lips. I bit my lip, wishing his sheer presence didn’t turn me on.
“Put me aside for a minute,” he smirked again, and I shook my head when he walked into the lounge. The thought of being near him made me fear my actions. I wasn’t sane around this man. My body had its own agenda. “Think logically. You’re a clever, strong woman. You don’tneedanyone. So whyhim?”
I gulped at my wine, my fingers trembling when I tried to speak.
“I do love him,” I blurted out as his eyes darkened slightly. “Just not like I love you. I didn’t expect you to be here...I just thought we would both have moved on.”
I fiddled with my ring, and his eyes fell to my fingers.
“I find it impossible to move on from you, Jain. I’ve tried, trust me. You seem to be doing well though, actually marrying someone else would do it.”
He threw a log onto the open fire, and I watched him like I was watching a movie. He was perfect for me in every way, and I had to tell him. If I didn’t—I didn’t know what would happen to me.
“I can’t marry him. It’s not fair on him.”
Evan stopped, turning to me as he breathed heavily. He walked over to me slowly, dropping to his knees before meas he swallowed, his eyes searching mine. I couldn’t breathe. The intensity of his stare was melting the core of my being.
