Theo stroked my hair, smiling as everyone congratulated us both.
“Are you okay?” Mara said, crushing me into a hug.
She’d bought flowers and candy, but it was obvious she was only interested in the baby, her eyes wide as she gazed at him.
“Oh my God, he’s a mini Theo,” Mara said with a gasp.
“God help us,” boomed a voice, and in walked Theo’s parents.
“Hey, Mom, Dad.” Theo beamed. “Meet our son.”
“Oh my, he looks just like you as a baby!” Laura cried as Alonzo stroked her back.
“As long as he doesn’t scream all night like he did—”
We all laughed then, and I looked down to see our baby was fast asleep.
“He’s not bothered by all the fuss,” Mom whispered.
“He’s wiped out. Been a busy day,” I mumbled, patting his bum without thinking.
“Does he have a name?” Mara asked as everyone turned to look at us.
“He’s still Baby De Luca,” I said.
“He’s going to break some hearts,” Laura said, still gazing at her grandson.
“What do you think?” I said, turning to gaze at Theo.
Theo put his hands out to hold him, and I didn’t even hesitate.
“Go to Papi, baby.”
The sight of Theo holding our son made me well up, and someone pressed tissues into my hands as Theo stared down at him. The sight of our baby in his muscly arms was killing me, and although I’d been through hell to get him here, I already knew there’d be more children.
Especially when they’re that beautiful.
“So I’m thinking, if you’re gonna break some hearts...you’ll need a name that fits you.”
I smiled as I watched Theo talking in a voice I’d never heard before.
“I mean, it’s up to Mommy, but I love the name Romeo.”
Theo lifted his eyes to mine, and I knew immediately that was the name.
“Romeo De Luca,” I whispered, as a ripple of excitement ran around the room.
“Romeo Phillip De Luca,” Theo suggested, in honour of my surname.
I nodded as Mom let out a sob, and Theo handed Romeo to her as she stared at him in awe.
“I don’t care whose heart you break, as long as no one breaks yours,” she gushed.
“Ooh, his little fingers!” Mara cooed from beside my mom. She leaned over, stroking his hand as she welled up.
“Congratulations.” Ryan smiled, kissing the top of my head. “Theo, you too, man.”
The door opened again, and this time Nik walked in, a massive bouquet in his arms.
