“Jesus, Dad, are you drunk?”

“No, son.” He chuckled, his eyes glittering as he gazed at me. “I just want you to know that before you go out there, guns blazing.”

He turned back to the TV, and I shook my head. I pulled open the front door to see Gabe marching over to Summer and Christian, who were standing at the end of the drive.

What is he doing?

“Summer!” his voice boomed as she turned towards him, her eyes wide with surprise.

“Gabriel?” she said, her voice wavering with uncertainty.

“What are you doing?” he demanded, standing in front of her as Christian raised his eyebrows.

“So you’re still the overprotective friend?” he huffed, a puzzled expression on his face.

Something made me stand still, realization dawning on me.

“Shut the fuck up,” Gabe growled, glaring at Christian.

Why is my best friend squaring up to Christian? Because he’s taking Summer out?

I closed my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose.

Those fuckers. Surely not.

“What did you just say to me?” Christian stammered, his fists balling up at his sides.

“No!” Summer snapped as she grabbed Gabe, and he took her hand in his.

What?!

“What are youdoing?!”Summer hissed at him, nodding at me. “Cale is right there—”

“I don’t care. I won’t do this, Summer,”’ he replied, his voice shaking.

“Then I’m not going.”

Christian folded his arms. “What the fuck is going on?” he demanded as I finally stepped forward.

“You’re in love with her,” I stated. Gabe turned to me. His eyes softened, and I realized he still held her hand.

“Shit. I’m sorry, man, I know she’s your sister...but fuck it. You’re right.”

I frowned as Summer wrapped her arms around his waist.

“I’m sorry,” she said as he cupped her face in his hands.

The way he looked at her...this was fuckingsurreal.

“You said you wanted me,” Gabe muttered. “So this is me. I’m not sharing you.Ever.” He kissed her then, as Christian held his hands up in disbelief.

“So, what’s going on, Summer? Are you with this douchebag?”

“Christian,” I interrupt. “He’snota fucking douchebag, so watch your mouth,” I warned.

“Summer?” Christian repeated, his eyes boring into her as she turned to him.

“I’m sorry, Christian. But I…want to be with Gabriel.”
