“Yeah. So I punched him. No apologies.”

“JT said he was going torapeyour sister, Caleb? In thoseexactwords?”

I leaned my head back as she waited and looked her in the eye.

“My sister has told him no on countless occasions. He continues to bother her at every opportunity. He then comes up to me on the school field and says he wants to take her out. I said no.”

She was silent as she watched me, hooked on my every word.

“So he told me her ass was his, regardless.”

Thatwaspretty truthful.

“Caleb, that’snotthreatening to rape her,” she sighed, rubbing her eyes in relief.

I gazed at her in mock horror as I leaned forward. “Actually, itis. It’s threatening rape. My sister doesn’t want to have any sexual relations with him. He’s telling me he’s going to do it, regardless. Trust me on this one, and my parents would see it the same way.”

“Caleb. That’snotthreatening to rape anyone. But I can seewhyit would cause you upset. I’ll speak with both your sister and JT, and hopefully, we can all continue as normal.”

“Thank you, Principal Potts.”

She eyed me as I stood.

“Caleb. If you do anything else to mess up here, it will mean instant suspension. Do you understand? I will let this one go, given the situation’s sensitivity, but you need to keep your fists to yourself. I don’t want you to miss out on vital work now, at this stage.”

I nodded as she gestured to the door, dismissing me. I walked out with a massive grin on my face until I saw Gabe arguing with Summer at the end of the corridor. I made my way over to them slowly, desperate to hear the conversation.

“I already have a brother and a father who watch my every move, dammit. I don’t need you joining their sad little cult.”

She was pissed.

“Just nothim. Okay? Caleb will fucking murder him, andhe will get suspended.”

“Well then, he should learn to control his temper,” Summer retorted, her eyes flashing.

“Please. For me,” Gabe said, putting his hand on her shoulder as she looked up at him in shock, his eyes searching hers as she shrugged away from him.

“You’re all so fuckingcontrolling. Now I see why you’re his best friend. God forbid any of you have any daughters,” she turned and walked away then, and Gabe watched her leave, his eyes sad. He turned and saw me and forced a smile on his face.

“Girls,” he shrugged as he walked beside me. “Summer said she’s going out with JT,” he mumbled. I froze, turning towards him.

“What?”

He ran his hand through his dusky blonde hair as he sighed, looking in the direction she had left in. “I begged her not to. But I think you and I need to have a word with JT.” His eyes met mine, and I saw darkness there I hadn’t seen before.

“Let’s just see, shall we? JT may see it differently after Principal Potts has finished with him,” I grinned as Gabe furrowed his brow at me.

“OhGod, what have you done now?” he groaned.

“Me? Nothing. Just the truth,” I shrugged.

“I bet.”

CHAPTER 11

SUMMER

My mouth dropped open. This was fuckingsurreal. Principal Potts smiled at me kindly as she spoke.
