Maverick ignores Landon’s jab and makes his way to the hallway.
“Good luck,” Landon calls out.
“Don’t need luck. Look at me. She won’t be able to resist.”
I roll my eyes. Idiot.
CHAPTER NINETEEN
Violet
There’s another knock at the door.
“I said to fuck off Landon.”
“Sorry to disappoint, little one, but I am much better looking than him.” Maverick pokes his head in and when my gaze meets his, I can’t help but smile. He’s such a goof.
“You smiled! I’m off the hook.” He throws his arms up in victory.
“No, you are very much on the hook, just less so than that fucking moron.”
“I know we hurt you, but we have wanted you for so long we didn’t think.”
“I was single all of high school, and most of uni. Why now?” but I know the answer already.
“Landon.”
I give Maverick I small tight-lipped smile, “Look I just need some space.”
“Don’t leave,” Maverick seems panicked.
“I’m not going to leave. I just need to think.”
“Okay, I’ll give you the space you asked for, but just don’t leave. I finally have you; I don’t want to lose you.”
I look up, his hazel eyes looking at me, pleading with me. “I promise, Mav.”
With that, he gives me a sad smile and he leaves the room.
I’m pissed at them. But Landon. The fucking mastermind behind it all.
He had plenty of time to act. They had plenty of time to act. But if what Mum said is true it’s because James was going to propose. Time was running out.
God, if I’m more hurt over a lie than I was over the end of my relationship, then was marrying James going to be happy or last?
I can justify what they did and why they did it. Doesn’t mean it was right and doesn’t mean I’m letting them off the hook.
I drop the towel and crawl under the covers, Axel can cuddle up with one of the others tonight.
Landon
Violet is pissed at me, so I may as well rip the Band-Aid off, “James was going to propose to Violet.”
Maverick slams the fridge and spins on his heels to face me.
Axel is the one to speak, “Fucking what?”
“Dad told me. James spoke to him and Claire about proposing to Violet.” I rub the back of my neck. “And that’s when I knew I had to come back, and we had to make her ours.”
