“Elizabeth?” he asked.
She paused.
“Yes, Doctor. How’s the patient?” she asked, finally placing the number and name.
He was honest.
Because he had to be.
A part of him wanted to say he needed years of therapy, but he couldn’t do that to Elizabeth or to Gamble. The man deserved a chance at life again after Storm.
Especially since it couldn’t be with him.
Poe cemented the time frame, so he couldn’t do something stupid like lie about his therapy.
“Mr. Holloway is coming along rather nicely if I say so myself. Our soldier is healing, and he should be good enough to leave in a month, like we’d originally said. His month of therapy has progressed exactly as I hoped.”
She was relieved.
“Doctor, I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear that. We are all so worried about Gamble. His family has asked about him almost every day.”
And that was the truth.
Jagger or Maura texted daily to get updates if there were any available.
Poe kept that in mind.
He had a family.
So, he continued.
“Well, we’re on the right path. He’s gained thirty pounds, and barring any issues, we are on schedule.”
She was pleased.
“You are a miracle worker, Doctor Seville. I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for Gamble these last four weeks. I hope you’ll give us an action plan to follow when he comes home.”
Oh, he would.
“Gamble has become rather attached to the horse here, and the dog. I’m going to gift them to him. He’ll have a constant reminder of his time here.”
And him.
He hoped.
Honestly, she had no problem with any of that. She knew The Hunters wanted Gamble back, and if it meant putting a horse up in a riding stable, and the addition of a dog to the family, they’d be all in. They already had a dog who ran around whenever Rogue brought him from home.
Yeah, now, she was three days beyond pleased at this outcome.
Truth be told, it had been close with Gamble.
Only, she was leavingNOMarine behind.
“We can make that happen. You’ve done a good job, Doctor. Thank you,” she stated.
“Oh, it’s been my pleasure,” he admitted, knowing that was the truth.
It had also been his pain of having to let him go.
