“I’ll update you next week. Until then, Director, have a good day.”

Now that she had some good news, she could do just that.

“I will now,” she said. “You have one too.”

When they were done talking, Poe hung up.

Only, he knew one thing.

He wouldn’t have a good day.

Sooner, rather than later, he was going to have to say goodbye.

And he wasn’t sure he could do it.

Truthfully.

One Month Later

Poe Seville’s Home

Early Fall

Days Until His Release

The chores never ended, and Gamble was grateful for that. It kept his mind busy, and he wasn’t dwelling on the painful truth.

He was leaving soon.

Time flew for him.

He’d been in therapy for seven weeks, and he was thankful that he’d been given this chance to heal in this most beautiful place.

His doctor…

Well, Doctor Poe Seville was nothing short of a miracle worker.

Because of him, Gamble didn’t want to die anymore. Instead, he wanted to live and take back his life.

This was a miracle, considering how far gone he’d been.

When he’d tried to burn the tattoo of Storm from his arm, Poe had promised him that he’d get her removed, and last week, they did.

They took an incredibly rare outing into the city. The whole time, he had a good time.

It was rare they left the sanctuary of the man’s home, but they were celebrating.

It was tattoo day.

So, Poe drove him to a tattoo place, and he had a new design put over the destroyed one of Storm. It was a tribute to his Marine roots, and very patriotic.

He’d gotten emotional about it too.

It was like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, and he felt human again.

With the wiping away of that part of his life, he felt like he had a real chance of getting over the pain.
