“So, you met Luke’s business partner, what is he like?” Jas asks.
“Yes, I met Blake, and Bec, their executive assistant. They were friendly and fun. Oh yeah, and Blake is extremely good looking in a blond, tall, athletic kind of way.”
I’ve now got Jas’s total attention. He's her type, but I also suspect he's taken.
“Down, girl. Don’t get too excited as I'm fairly sure there's something going on between Blake and Bec.”
Lily leans forward in her chair. “Ooh office gossip, I love it. Sounds like the function had everything.”
Laughing, I agree. “It really did—oh, and the best bit was Luke and Blake’s company won the Most Influential Company of the Year Award.”
“Wow, I’m seriously impressed as they had some tough competition this year,” says Lily.
Jas waves her hand to move me along, “And then what happened afterward? You know when you went back to his place.”
“Well, Luke took me back to his apartment and by then I was definitely ready to jump the man’s bones. I mean, he did wear a tux well,”
I start to recount, happy to tell them about some of my night with Luke, just not all the private sexy special moments which are only between Luke and me.
Jasmine gets up heading to the kitchen. “Now we’re talking. Hold up, I think we need some red wine, girls.”
Lily and I wait for Jas to return with a glass of red wine for each of us and some crackers in a bowl. “Okay, you can continue now.”
In between sips of red wine, I tell them about Luke’s addictive hot kisses and how we couldn’t keep our hands off each other and didn’t even make it to the bedroom.
Fanning her face, Jas says, “It sounds like you've had twenty-four hours of some hot sexy times. You go for it, girl, and make the most of the hot man you seem to have wrapped around your little finger.”
“It was certainly lots of sexy times, but we also talked too. He told me about the night he was injured in Afghanistan.” As I retell a bit of Luke's story, Jas and Lily listen intently, their mouths slightly open as they learn about the extent of his burns.
When I finish, Jas raises her glass in a toast. “Thank God, for those crazy Australian pilots. But why Australian and not American?”
“Luke said the Australians were part of the joint task force working with the American guys,” I confirm.
Lily agrees, “All our military are heroes.”
Jas collects our now empty glasses. “I love the Australian accent. It’s so sexy.”
Lily and I both stare at her. Sometimes following Jasmine’s musings can be a little confusing.
“What?” she exclaims when she catches our expressions. “You know it’s true. Just think about the Hemsworth brothers,” she explains before taking the glasses into the kitchen.
Lily puts her arm around me, giving me a quick hug as she says, “I’m glad Luke is okay now and so happy you guys are together again. Just maybe a little jealous.”
“Thanks, Lil. I am happy but I still feel like I can't trust him completely with my heart, that will take time." I yawn wide. "Sorry, it's time for bed for me. I think the wine has made me feel tired.”
Jas floats back into the living room, having finished in the kitchen. “Exhausted I imagine!” she concludes, winking at me.
Giggling I walk down the hall to bed. Feeling tired and a little sore in all the right places.
Over the last week, Luke and I have seen each other a lot. In and out of bed.
On Tuesday, I took Luke to Benny’s bar and introduced him to Benny and his wife, Maria. Benny made us one of his famous cocktails. I think he called it a Tuesday Twister. Funny how it tasted suspiciously like a Friday Fancy, although I would never dare suggest such a thing to Benny.
Jasmine met us for a drink after we’d eaten a delicious lasagna cooked by Maria. Unfortunately, Lily had to work late, but I liked having Luke spend time with at least one of my friends.
Jas and I told him a bit about the great European adventure we went on after we finished college. He seemed honestly interested to hear more about the life I lived between high school and Manhattan.
After, he came back to my place and spent the night in my bed. The first of many, I hope, cos I sure could get used to waking up next to Luke on a regular basis. Even if he plays havoc with my morning routine and makes me late for work.
