Grabbing a drink from a nearby table, she smirked. “Girl, you don’t even want to know. Then again…”

“Nah, you’re probably right. I don’t want to know.”

“Too late, I’m telling you anyway.”

Knowing I shouldn’t have asked in the first place, I rolled my eyes. “Oh God, what happened?”

“So, do you remember Talisha?”

“Talisha?” I questioned, her name not ringing a bell.

“Yeah, Talisha Valentine. She used to be in the same dorm as us. She dated Omar Douglas.”

“Ohhh…yeah I remember her. What about her?”

“She’s getting married.”

“Really? That’s great.”

“Yep,” Kendra said with a nod. “Anyway, she had her bachelorette party last night, and the shit was wild as hell. Honestly, I think I might have sprained my wrist from trying to stand on my head a few times.”

“Why in the hell were you trying to stand on your head, Kendra?”

“Trust me, if you would’ve seen the stripper they had, you would’ve been trying to stand on your head too. Whatever it took to keep his hands around my waist, I was all for it.”

I sighed. “Please tell me that’s the only place he had his hands.”

“Girl, bye, then I would be lying,” she said before laughing.

“Did you fuck the stripper?”

“Huh?” she replied while holding her glass up to her mouth.

“Don’t try to play dumb. You heard my ass. Did you fu—”

“Well, well, well…look at my two favorite girls. I didn’t even know you two were here yet,” Aunt Patricia said before reaching for me and pulling me into a hug. “You look so beautiful today. Who did your braids? Was it Shelby, Linda’s daughter?”

Immediately, I frowned. “No ma’am. I stop going to her a long time ago. I like having my edges.”

“Oh, girl, hush. I know she can’t be that bad.”

“Bullshit!” Kendra jumped in. “Fooling with her ass you’ll have a full head of braids by noon and be baldheaded by midnight.”

Aunt Patricia gasped. “Kendra…watch your mouth.”

“Why? I’m grown.”

“Yeah, but you don’t need to be talking like that in front of family. Your grandmother is out here.”

“And?She says a hell of a lot more than me.”

“Never mind all that,” she replied before waving her off. “You two come say hi to your grandmother. Oh, and Nicolette too. I’m sure she’s around here somewhere. I think she went to put Issac down for a nap. He was a little fussy earlier.”

I nodded, pretending as if I gave two shits about the whereabouts of my cousin. Nicolette was Kendra’s sister, and she never failed to work my damn nerves. She was married with two kids and was convinced that she knew the secret to keeping a man.

“Mama, look who I have here,” Aunt Patricia said as she motioned for us to take a seat at the round table that our grandmother was sitting at.

“Mmhmm, I saw them when they came in. I was waiting to see if they were going to speak.” Her tone was just as condescending as always. But, like always, I tried to ignore it.
