Racing off from the party, Olivia worked on calming her breathing and tried to make sense of what had just happened.
She had never experienced a reaction like that before. She thought that she was past all the triggering thoughts and actions, but guess not.
Deciding to not focus on that, she continued to make her way back to her house. The sooner she was able to curl up with Nibbles and her favorite blanket, the better off she would be.
CHAPTER TWO
MILES
Miles had no idea what just happened, but he didn’t like it one bit. He darted after Olivia in hopes that he would catch her, but while he was twice her height, she was pretty fast.
He lost her when she slipped into the crowd. He hoped that he would find her before she could slip away.
He didn’t like the look of panic on her face and the labored breathing. Something wasn’t right and he was determined to find out what it was.
By the time he made it back to the parking lot, he didn’t see her car anywhere. That didn’t ease his worries at all considering she was driving a death trap on wheels.
Once she became his, that would be the first thing he was going to take care of. His Little girl wasn’t going to drive a car that could fall apart at any moment.
Dialing her number, Miles made his way back to where Raelyn and Emmett were standing with puzzled looks on their faces.
“Hey, you’ve reached Olivia! I can’t talk right now, but if I like you, I will call you back. Bye now!”
Dang it, Olivia! He needed her to answer the phone. He would continue to worry about her until he could hear her voice again. Glancing over at Raelyn, “I need her address. Something isn’t right.”
“I can’t give you her address because I don’t know it. Any time we have hung out together, we either meet up somewhere or she comes to me.”
Shaking his head and sighing at her words, he tried to not lose his temper with Rae.
It wasn’t her fault that Olivia seemed to keep everyone at arm's length, but he was going to get to the bottom of that as soon as he was able to have his Little girl in his arms. He needed to see for himself that she was okay.
Waving goodbye to Emmett and Raelyn, Miles headed to his truck. He might not know where his Little girl lives, but he figured that driving around for a bit wouldn’t hurt.
He didn’t have hopes that he would find her, but it helped settle his mind just a tad. Miles has never been the type of guy who just sat by and did nothing. He wasn’t afraid to get involved and today was no different.
He tried her phone again, but it went to voicemail again. Deciding to shoot off a text message to her, he hoped that she would see it and at least let him know that she was okay.
That’s all he wanted at this moment. He could figure out everything else later, he just needs his Little Bunny to be okay.
Miles: Little Bunny, can you at least let me know if you’re okay? I’m worried about you.
Miles continued to drive around their little town for a bit while longer before deciding that she wasn’t out there and headed home.
He kept checking his phone in hopes that maybe he missed a call or text message from Olivia, but his notifications never changed. Deciding to send one more text message before bed, Miles held out hope that she would respond by morning.
Miles: Olivia, I hope you’re okay. I’m not going anywhere and when you’re ready, I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Letting himself into the house,he waited for the mammoth he called a dog to come barreling at him. Kneeling down, Miles scratched Diesel’s neck before heading to the sliding back door and letting him out to do his business.
Miles didn’t really know what possessed him one day to go to the pound and get a dog. Maybe it was loneliness or maybe a mid-life crisis.
All he knew was that one day he woke up and decided he needed to make a trip to the local pound.
Diesel was in the back of the kennel and the workers warned Miles that he wouldn’t want him. Apparently, he was a frequent flyer in their pound.
Someone would come and adopt him, thinking that he would be the perfect addition to their family, but it wouldn’t take long before they brought him back for one reason or another.
The workers told him that he didn’t always play nice with other dogs, but that his protective instincts were of high remark. Diesel was especially protective over women and kids and would sometimes be more skittish around men.
