“Yeah, Rae has already been texting me begging for me to hurry up and come home. She’s apparently already picked out a bunch of games for us to play tonight.”
“Of course she has. The Little brat doesn’t know how to have patience.”
“Don’t I know it man. It’s been a lesson she’s been having to learn the hard way recently.”
“Anyways, I’ll be there after I make a stop at the store. Gotta grab some things.”
“Don’t think I don’t know that what you need to grab is candy for the girls.”
Miles chuckled as he turned and headed out the office. He had been sneaking candy to Raelyn since he met her. It was one of his favorite things to do.
It wasn’t a secret from Emmett though. After the first time he brought her candy, Miles received a text later that night from Emmett cursing him cause he was dealing with a hyper Little who didn’t think her bedtime was important that night.
So they continued to let Rae believe that it was a super special secret between them, but Emmett now had a heads up when his Little girl was going to be a bigger handful. Miles couldn’t wait to start the tradition with Olivia now, as well.
Thinking of her, he pulled out his phone to shoot her a text.
Miles: Hey, sweet girl. Not much longer before I get to see you.
Olivia: Not at all! I’m running behind though. I got lost in my book and ignored my alarms.
Miles: That’s alright, Little one. Take your time, we will be together soon.
Miles: Before I forget, what’s your favorite candy?
Olivia: Twix!
Miles: Good to know. Be careful driving to their house. See you soon, babygirl.
Whistling, he made his way to the truck and headed towards the grocery store by Emmett’s house.
He could feel that this was going to be a good night and he couldn’t wait to spend the evening with all of the people he cares about most.
Glancingat his watch again as he listened for knocks at the front door, Miles noted that it was almost six-thirty. He was starting to be worried that Olivia changed her mind about coming tonight.
He was trying to be patient and think optimistically, but that was proving to be difficult. Turning back towards the board game opened on the table before him, Miles realized that it was his turn. Grabbing the dice he tossed them on the table just as his phone rang.
Looking at it he noticed that it was Liv calling him. Swiping to answer it Miles stepped away to have some privacy.
“Hey, Little Bunny. What’s up?”
The line was silent for a moment and Miles thought that maybe she butt dialed him. Before he could speak again, he heard the sweet voice of his angel.
“Miles.”
He didn’t like the sound of her voice. It was as if she was scared to speak too loudly.
“Olivia, what’s going on? Where are you babygirl?”
“Miles…I broke down on the side of the road. I’m scared.”
“Okay baby, can you tell me where you broke down?”
“Uh, I don’t know. It’s dark. I remember turning past the old farm house off of highway 24.”
Miles knew exactly what road she was on and it wasn’t any place he wanted his Little girl to be.
“Okay, sweetheart. I’m coming. You stay in the car and lock your doors. I’m on my way now.”
