This took me by surprise. “Really? You don't want the baby to be human?”

“Isn't that kind of the point? To have someone that can be Alpha next?”

It was, but I had expected Nina to want a human child. Someone who was like her. “I'm just a little surprised you don't want a human baby, that's all. I feel most moms want their children to be like them.”

She shrugged. “I had for a little while, but I came to realize if the baby was human, they would never experience everything you have. The bond you have with all the other shifters is different, and I think you guys feel on a differentlevel.” She looked back at her book. “That and I look forward to seeing our child shift for the first time.”

I chuckled, looking back towards the road. “I just hope they have a wonderful life.” It was something I had thought a lot about since Nina had been pregnant. I wanted the kids to be raised differently from how I was. I wanted them to be raised to be tough, but I also wanted them to know that humans aren't terrible.

We arrived at Jay and Sam's house early. We found Jay in the backyard, getting the grill turned on, and Sam standing in the yard with their daughter, who was strolling around.

“Look at how big she's getting,” Nina said as we rounded the house.

Both of them turned, and Sam smiled. “Isn't she? She's starting to walk.”

I couldn't help but feel a tug to have that soon with our child. I heard about everything from Henrik and Jay. I never thought I would be standing in their shoes, eager to have the same goals.

Nina crossed the yard, reaching down, and stroked her hand over their daughter's hair. I walked over to Jay, who smiled. He looked at me, still holding that smile. “You getting excited? The date is getting closer. Just a couple more months to go.”

“I am.” I couldn't help but look at Nina, taking in her stomach. She was the image of beauty. “I'm looking forward to it.”

The guys arrived twenty minutes later, and the party was in full swing. Jay grilled steaks for everyone while the girls all looked after the kids. I was sitting in a chair with Nina sittingnext to me. We both had a soda as we watched the kids running around.

“Did you guys find out if it was a boy or a girl?” Katie asked as she sat down in her chair. Henrik gave her hand a squeeze, and then he got up and walked over towards the kids' trading spots.

“We didn't,” Nina said, shaking her head. “We decided we didn't want to know.”

“It's a nice surprise,” Katie said as she reached for her water while taking a drink.

“Steaks should be done in a few minutes.” Jay looked away from the grill. I pulled myself out of my chair and walked over to grab myself another drink. I paused next to the grill with Jay. “How have you been? Since the latest attack?

The darkness was escalating and quickly. We had everyone trying to figure out what they could remember since apparently we were all there for whatever happened. Everyone was coming up empty.

“No one remembers this kid? How can a kid die and no one remember him?”

Jay shook his head. “None of us has any memory of something like that, which is odd because if we were all there, we should know about it. It's just weird. The entire thing just feels...off. It’s unsettling.”

I agreed with him. We all were on edge with this news, and I had Natalia looking even deeper for information but didn't want this conversation to ruin the party. I was trying to learn to enjoy my time with my wife when we had the moments rather than worrying about what the future held.

“Sam looks happy,” I said, nodding my head towards her.

Jay beamed with pride. “She is. Nina looks happy. I didn't know if that was going to be possible.”

I scowled at him. “What, you think I'm that terrible to be around?”

Jay snorted. “I don't think you realize how hard you were on humans until now. You've changed a lot, and it's good. We can all tell you're happy.”

“Frank, can you help me get to the bathroom?” Nina started to pull herself out of her chair. I set my drink aside and headed over to her, and helped put her up. We headed up to the house, and once inside, we headed to the bathroom.

“I feel like I pee twenty times a day,” she said as she shoved the door open. I looked down at her ass and smirked. “You still look sexy even if you do.”

Nina rolled her eyes and slammed the door shut. I laughed and waited. The toilet flushed, and I heard the water from the sink. After a few moments, the door opened, and I stood in the doorway. I looked at Nina, taking in her pregnancy glow and tugging to be close to her.

“You know we have a few minutes,” I said, wiggling my eyebrows at her.

She raised an eyebrow at me. “What were you thinking?”

I smirked as I stepped closer to her. “I tug your dress up and ram you.”
