“Watch your tone, Frank. You're only here because we allowed it.”
Frank ground his teeth together and leaned back in his chair.
“In your medical experience, is Jillian faking everything?”
Katie shook her head. “No. Jillian had a traumatic experience and is suffering from it. She's got insomnia with PTSD. She is also covered in bruises from the attack and hadsome internal bleeding, which has started to heal. Jillian is part human, which means she is weaker and an easier target. Which would explain why they used her as the subject.”
Frank's nostrils flared, and I squeezed his hand.
“And you insisted that she be interrogated instead of medically taken care of?”
“I handled all of her medical needs,” Katie said softly, giving us a sad expression. “She was taken care of during this.”
“So, you're saying you didn't push her?” Ralph asked. “You went into this thinking she was innocent and didn't push her to make sure?
Katie shook her head. “Anyone in this condition wouldn't last under real torture.”
“Sounds like you did a half-ass job,” Jennisa said, irritated.
Katie crossed her arms. “You asked me to medically test her, and I did. She didn't sleep for twenty-four hours before the test, which even the most trained will falter. She didn't.” Katie looked at all of us. “Medically, she is innocent.”
I felt relieved, and my shoulders relaxed slightly. I took a few deep breaths and looked at Jillian. She had her eyes on the ground, and I could see they were red, likely from crying. I wanted to wrap her in a hug and make everything better.
“Jillian, please tell us once more what happened.”
Jillian pulled her gaze up, and I could see just how broken she really was. She looked at Frank and me, looking hurt. I didn't even get to tell her we were on her side and that she knew she was innocent.
“I was running to Nina when she jumped into the darkness. It moved away from them, and it came at me. I was suddenly looking out, unable to do anything. But I felt such anger and rage.”
I could see Jillian look in pain when Katie placed her hand on her shoulder. Jillian looked at her for a second before she took a deep breath. “I was screaming to get out, but there was nothing I could do. This voice just kept saying this was what everyone deserved.”
“You heard the voice?” Ralph asked, suddenly interested more.
Jillian nodded. “Yeah, he was talking about how we all earned this. None of us helped when he needed it, so he was going to make everyone pay.”
The room went silent, and I was stunned.
“What else do you know?” Jay asked.
Jillian looked at the Alphas and swallowed. “That you were all there that night.”
I looked at the guys. “What? What night?”
Jillian frowned. “The night his son died.”
“What? No, we weren't!?” Aaron snapped.
“We would remember something like this.” Jone offered, shaking his head. “He must be confused.”
“Who the hell is this person?” Maddox asked.
Everyone was talking all at once, and I glanced at Frank. “What is she talking about?”
Frank shook his head. “I don't know. We only all get together on a rare occasion, and all of us being around watching someone die? That's never happened.”
The room suddenly felt so packed and tense. Ralph slammed his hand onto the table. “Enough!” He yelled, grabbing everyone's attention.
“What else do you know?” Ralph asked Jillian.
