“Sam got a flat tire on the way down, so she couldn't make it.” I shrugged. “We'll go another time. I've been working on what I want to bring from the storage.”

“What did you decide?”

“I want to bring my bed frame and my dresser over. I would also like to get started on the nursery sooner rather than later.”

Frank nodded, opened the fridge, and pulled out some hamburgers. He leaned back on the counter. “Do you want me to go shopping with you tomorrow?”

His question threw me, and I looked at him, surprised. “Really? You don't have to. I'm sure you've got a busy day.”

He shook his head. “Nope, I have a pretty easy day tomorrow, and I want to. It's for the baby, after all.”

“For clothes,” I added. “Nothing big.”

“I want to go,” he offered and turned to the hamburger. “Now, how do burgers sound for dinner?”

Frank went with me shopping the next day. I was surprised at how interested he was in everything I was looking at. I had expected him to linger back and watch, but Frank picked out more clothes than I had.

“Look at this,” he said, waving a pink dress. “This is cute.”

“We don't know the sex of the baby yet,” I said. “We shouldn't buy clothes like that, gender-wise, until we know, and that's too big. I was looking at newborn clothes.”

Frank looked at it and then looked back at me. “Well, if it is a girl, we have to come back for this.”

I looked at our cart, which was filled with clothes and baby items. We had pacifiers and blankets. Little hates and tiny shoes. Frank even ordered a large rocking chair for the baby's room, stating he needed something comfortable to sit in.

He walked a few steps ahead of me, and I couldn't help but feel a little off. Frank was the father, yet we felt distant from each other. I looked across the shop and stared at another couple who were pregnant. The mother had her hand on her belly, and the husband had his arm wrapped around her. They looked so madly in love, and I couldn't help but feel sad knowing that it wasn't us.

“OOooohhhh, we need this.” I turned back to Frank, and my eyes widened as he stood holding a breast pump.

“Oh my god, put that back,” I said, embarrassed as he pulled the box open.

“Would this fit your breast?”

“Frank, oh my god! Put that back!”

Frank smirked, though. “Are you embarrassed?”

“I'm embarrassed you're waving it around, yes. Put that back.” I grabbed the breast pump, shoving it back into the box. “We are done shopping now.”

Frank laughed as I pulled him towards the register. I was in such a hurry to leave that I could feel my face growing hot.

Outside, we started putting everything into the car, and Frank froze. “Oh crap, I forgot to ask when they would deliver the chair. I'm going to run back in for a second.”

I waved him off, still embarrassed. He headed inside, and I finished putting everything into the trunk. We had a full trunk by the time I emptied my cart. I shut the trunk and turned, freezing in my step. The person who parked next to me was just getting out of the car, and I realized it was Kailey.

I tried to remain calm, but I could see the sinister smile on her face. “Well, if it isn't Frank's wife.”

I swallowed. “Hello, Kailey.”

She grinned. “Where's Frank? Did you leave him at home, not wanting to embarrass him?”

If only she knew he was the one embarrassing me today. I forced a smile. “He's inside checking the date on a delivery.”

She nodded. “Yeah, I heard you were expecting. It's nice to know you're not a complete waste of space.”

The slap hit, and I felt my jaw drop. Had she honestly just said that to me?

“Excuse me?” I said, trying to find my voice.
