“Janice is right, you know,” chimes in Tim, the company's IT manager, who has been eavesdropping from a nearby office. “We've all seen the dedication you've put into preparing for this day. You've got the brains and the heart to make this work.”
“Thanks.” I haven't realized just how visible my efforts have been.
With every conversation, every encouraging word, my confidence continues to build. I am surrounded by a team of hardworking individuals who believe in me. Together, we will forge a new chapter in the story of Legacy Inc., one that will benefit not only their own families but also the community.
As I walk back to the office and settle into my father's old chair, I’m ready to tackle the rest of the day.
“Your coffee is on your desk, just how you like it.”
“Thanks, Sarah.”
Time to show everyone that I have what it takes… here goes nothing.

Chloe
As the marketing director, I have learned to navigate the challenges that come with being a woman in a male-dominated industry with grace and determination. Thankfully, no one has questioned my ability to lead. But how can they? I work my ass off for this company and have brought in millions of dollars of marketing revenue.
“Morning, Chloe.”
“Morning.” Time is money, and I didn't have any to waste on small talk. Efficiency is now my middle name. My rise to the top is nothing short of amazing. I started as an intern myself, fetching coffee for the senior executives and drowning in a sea of photocopies. But I proved my worth, my keen eye for detail and penchant for innovative strategies catching the eye of the superiors. I clawed my way up through the ranks, while finishing my degree, leaving a trail of impressed colleagues and envious rivals in my wake.
Of course, none of this would be possible if Mr. Myers didn’t start the company with a simple design in mind. Legacy Inc. has skyrocketed. The biggest part of running a business is knowing where the trends are going and being able to adapt to the times. Right now, people want environment friendly andcruelty free products. You can charge more for them and they sell like hotcakes. Our biggest targeting success is twenty to thirty-year-olds in the United States. Our customer acquisition cost has gone down strikingly low in the past two years, but our marketing campaigns are more successful.
As I settle into my office chair, I turn on my computer and take my first sip of coffee for the day. It’s going to be a long one.Alright, let's get down to business. I dive into my emails, ready to tackle another day in the corporate jungle. I have ten minutes until my first meeting and my assistant has been amazing at keeping up.
“Everyone is in the conference room. I’ll have a fresh coffee waiting for you in there.”
In this meeting, I need to tread carefully; one wrong move can send them all plummeting down the precarious tightrope of corporate survival.
“Alright, team. We've got our work cut out for us today,” I begin, voice steady and measured. “Our competition is fierce, and we need to be smarter and more strategic than ever.” In my mind, I consider each word, weighing its potential impact like an expert chess player contemplating the next move. “Katie, I want you to partner with Alex on revising our social media strategy. Think about what's working, what's not, and where we can make improvements,” I instruct, my eyes locked on the young marketer. “And remember: I expect well-reasoned suggestions backed by data, not just gut feelings.”
“Understood.” Katie scribbles notes onto her pad.
“Michael, I'd like you to analyze our recent email campaigns. Look into open rates, click-through rates, and conversion rates. Identify trends and areas that need improvement. I want a detailed report by tomorrow morning.”
“Of course. I'll get right on it.” Michael is already pulling up spreadsheets on his laptop.
I delegate tasks and challenge my team members to think critically. I craft every directive as a testament to my strategic thinking. It is this very skill that has helped me climb the ranks in a male-dominated industry, and it is crucial in maintaining my hard-won position. “Alright, everyone, let's make today count. I have faith in every one of you to deliver results. Now, get to work.”
With that, the team disperses, diving headfirst into their tasks. I watch them go knowing that their success—and mine—hinge on the delicate balance of power.
My eyes narrow as I walk back into my office and scrutinize the mountain of data that sprawls across my desk, a kaleidoscope of numbers and graphs vying for my attention. A once steaming cup of coffee sits forgotten by my side, approaching room temperature as my focus remains laser-sharp on the task at hand. My fingers tap on the edge of my laptop, betraying my impatience as I wait for yet another report to load.Come on! The spinning wheel of death on my screen disappears. The document materializes before me, and I dive in, my analytical mind working overtime as I sift through the raw data.
“Chloe, have you seen these projections?” John, a tall, broad-shouldered man who has been promoted to my old role as manager with a penchant for questioning authority, saunters over to my desk, waving a thick bundle of papers in his hand. “They make little sense. You think we should prioritize this campaign over the other?”
“I don't decide things on a whim.” I don’t even lift my eyes from my screen. He’s testing me. “Solid evidence backs every choice I make. If you have concerns, show me your data at the manager meeting. I’ll be there in a minute.”
He hesitates for a moment. “Well, I just think we could put our resources elsewhere,” John says, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. “But I will.”
Shaking off the momentary distraction, I return to my work, delving back into the sea of information that awaits me. Because while I may have won this battle, but there will always be more challenges ahead, and I need to be ready to face them head-on. I answer one last email before heading to the conference room again. It’s important I stay up to date on everything that is going on. Those above me expect me to keep us from bleeding money. Detailed reports are the only way for me to be able to determine the success.
Okay, I want for my copies to print out and then I head down to the conference room.
“Alright, everyone, based on the analysis I've conducted, it's clear that we should focus our efforts on expanding our online presence through social media advertising and micro-influencer partnerships.”
John leans back in his chair, studying me with narrowed eyes. “I’m not sure about that,” he says. “In my experience, big-name influencers drive more traffic and sales. Are you sure this is the right direction for us?”
