I need to tell Kai.
* * *
I calledhim and he didn’t answer. Then I texted him.
After two hours passed, I make the decision.
I press dial on Kenji’s number.
“Hello, Cleo. What can I do for you?”
“I need to talk to Kai. Where is he? He’s not answering my calls.”
“Fuck. How long?”
“Two hours now.”
Kenji curses then comes back. “He’s fine, Cleo. He’s probably in his workshop and didn’t realize how much time has passed. I’ll send someone to check on him and have him call you right away. Is everything okay? Do I need to come in and get you?”
I scoff. “They would shoot you on sight.”
He chuckles. “There are tunnels beneath your home. I could get you out without them even knowing, and I will if you are in danger. Now tell me, do I get to steal the Irish princess from her tower?”
I swallow hard. “You really would risk your life, wouldn’t you?”
“I serve Kai. Kai has asked me to serve you. So yes, I would risk my life for you if need be.”
“I’m good. I’m safe. I have information for him, though. Please have him call me ASAP.”
Another thirty minutes pass as I pace my room.
A knock on the door pulls me out of my thoughts.
Opening it, I let out a relieved breath. “Callum.”
“I wanted to let you know I was back. Did your father give you any trouble?” he asks as he slips into the room.
I shake my head as he closes the door. “No. After last time, I think he will give me space.”
I’m lying, though. Especially since I know my father plans to use me as his pawn. He will come find me, eventually. Once he figures out what he actually wants to do.
“Good. Sorry I was gone so long. Did you want to do anything tonight?”
For a moment, I consider asking him to take me to see Kai, but I know what he would say.
He can’t because it would break the rules.
I can only see Kai in public when the dates are arranged.
“I think I’m going to go to bed early tonight. Do you need me for anything tomorrow?”
He shakes his head. “No, not as far as I know.”
“I’ll go get some beauty rest. Don’t stay up too late.”
“You’re already beautiful, kid, but get some rest. I’ll be in my room down the hall if you need me.”
Once the door is shut behind him, I move back to my bed, picking up the phone.
