“What is the fucker up to now?” Akita muses to himself.

We don’t have to wait long.

He stops beside a dumpster, grabbing a broken two by four. He tosses it in the air twice, then winks back at us.

Then he strides right up to the car sitting right outside the bar, lifting the wood before slamming it down into the windshield.

The guards by the door make their way to him, guns drawn, but he takes off running. I can hear shouts from inside.

After a few seconds, I get a text.

Kado: They are on the move out the back.

“Our turn,” I tell Akita, moving down the alley to make my way to the back part of the building.

Once at the back of the building, I see a car barreling down the alley. After it passes, I see her.

He’s so fixed on her he doesn’t hear me slip up behind him.

Sloppy.

“I don’t want to. Let me go,” she hisses as she tries to fight him off.

Then I see it. Her eyes wince in pain.

The motherfucker is hurting her.

He sealed his fate.

Slipping a knife from my pocket, I move closer.

“I think the lady asked you to let her go,” I say calmly.

I smile at her, letting her know everything is okay.

Her eyes are wide, afraid.

Then I bring the knife up to Igor’s neck, sliding it across his skin like a hot knife against butter.

Blood spurts out, some of it getting on Cleo.

I frown. I didn’t want her to get messy.

She doesn’t move though. As the blood continues, she stands there, her eyes fixated on the blade in my hand.

I drop him, stepping forward into her. She steps back, her eyes afraid.

“Shhh. Come here,” I whisper as if she’s a frightened cat.

I never thought about how watching me kill a man would affect her. Sometimes I forget how sheltered she is.

I slip my knife back into my pocket before I reach my hand up, wiping the blood on her face.

“I’m sorry, baby. Let’s get you cleaned up,” I say softly.

Before she can protest, I have her pulled up in my arms, carrying her down the alley. Kado’s already there in a car, waiting for us.

I slide into the back seat, settling her on my lap. I can feel her shaking against me.
