“Why?” I ask as I sit down on my bed, leaning against the headboard.
“Did you not get the message the first time? You’re mine.”
“I mean, yeah, but why kill him? It’s not like he did anything.”
“He wants to. That’s enough for me.”
I scoff, “I may not know much when it comes to what you men do, but even I know that’s no way to run a business. You can’t kill every man who talks to me, Kai. You don’t even know if Killian will choose you.”
“I can and I will. Killian will have no choice, but to choose me. I won’t let you go.”
“Why? We only just met,” I ask, biting my lip.
“You wouldn’t understand. Not yet. Let’s not talk about this. It’s pissing me off and making me want to stab someone.”
I heave out a sigh. “Fine. What is that symbol next to your name in my phone?”
He chuckles. “Look it up, princess. Next question.”
“Why won’t you tell me?”
“I think if I do, it will scare you.”
“You enjoy scaring me. Don’t you remember threatening my life for a reaction?”
“I remember standing in front of a fearless fucking warrior, not willing to back down. You made my dick so fucking hard, Cleo.”
“Kai, you cannot say things like that to me,” I chastise.
“Why not? It’s true. I’ve fucking whacked off to thoughts of you every single night since then.”
“It’s not appropriate,” I manage, the shock of his words clear in my tone.
Even through the shock, my body reacts to his words. Wetness pools between my legs, an aching I’ve only read about radiating from my core.
“Cleo, baby. You’re mine. There is nothing inappropriate when I’m talking to you. When I’m with you. If we are to be true partners, you will be involved in my life completely,” he rasps.
“Don’t tell me pretty words to get me on your side. Killian pretty much said I don’t have a choice in this. He only wants me to get to know each of you to see how you react.”
“They aren’t pretty words, princess. You don’t understand, but you will. You’ll get to know me. But I’m telling you now, I don’t make idle threats and I always follow through with actions.”
I swallow hard. He threatened me. Does that mean he plans to kill me?
“If you’re trying to scare me, I think it’s working now.”
“Why?” His voice is confident.
“You threatened me at the fundraiser. You said you don’t make idle threats.”
“That? That was my way of flirting. Where did my confident spitfire go? The one who stood up to me.”
“I’m not sure,” I whisper.
“Don’t worry. I’ll bring her back. Don’t ever be afraid of me. I will never hurt you. Kenji told you about your protection detail, correct?”
“Yes. Why, though? I have guards.”
“You do, but now I will always have eyes on you as well. An added layer of protection for my princess.”
